Refurbished Dyson DC21 Stowaway is $359.99
This deal has expired! This deal has expired!

Dyson Canada has just refreshed their refurbished page and they've got a great offer. The Refurbished DC21 Stowaway is just $359.99. It's a compact canister vacuum with a motorized brush head. The same vacuum purchased new runs $599.99 -- a whopping $240 over the refurbished price. The vacuum's features include:

  • HEPA Filter, 220 AW Suction Power
  • Motorized Brush Bar, Brush Tool Crevice Tool and Stair Tool
  • 16.4 ft cord with 28.5 ft maximum reach

All refurbished Dyson products are reworked and tested by qualified Dyson staff. This unit comes with a full two-year parts/labour warranty and free shipping. That's a pretty nice bonus for a refurbished product.

    • Not to take away from this interesting post, but can be noted that the warranty of 2 years is versus a warranty of 5 years on the full price model.

That's totally true, but you're also paying much less.

    • I know this doesn't apply to all, but for those in the Montreal region, refurbished.ca / j.sonic has these on sale for $349.99 LOCAL PICK-UP ONLY

      http://refurbished.ca/shop/index.php...er-vacuum-dc21

Save $10 and Perhaps you can "inspect" it first. j.sonic claims that these units are refurbished by Dyson themselves and include the Dyson 2 year warranty. As mentioned before, only applicable to Montrealers...

    • I have this exact vacuum, ordered as a refurb from Dyson.

The vacuum comes much like a Apple refurb; much plainer brown box but the product inside is essentially new. I could not tell my unit had been used, ever. Going forward should I need another Dyson, I would not hesitate to order another refurb from them again.

    • how is the $259 Miele S7 compared to this in terms of suction power? Anyone has 1st hand exp. in Dyson and Miele?

I have a Miele and my boyfriend has a Dyson. The Dyson definitely has stronger suction, but I prefer the Miele in every other respect. The Dyson is really bulky and using the hose with attachments is incredibly awkward. Part of that has to do with the specific vacuums, of course (his is an upright and mine is a canister). It's possible that the Dyson canister is the perfect compromise of the two and I like I said above, I'm a little sorry that I'm not getting the DC21.

    • I currently have a DC21 and previously a Miele canister as well. Having used both, I agree with the post above that the Dyson is definitely bulky and more awkward to maneuver. Also, emptying the dust bin is not a fun task. All the hepa filters on the vacuum is great, but you will probably breathe in some dust (nasty) when emptying the bin.

Power wise though the vacuum is great, and the motorhead is a big plus for carpeting. But because of the bin emptying, I think I will get a Miele again the next time.

    • Yeah, a lot of people like Dyson's bag-free option, but I really like the way the bag contains the dust. I don't know the specs of the Miele that you're considering, ricky13579, but my Miele came with six or eight bags -- a nice big supply.

    • While I agree that the non-motorhead attachments are pretty awful, I don't agree that the canister is difficult to empty. It is one button to release the canister which you can then take over to the garbage and then another to open the canister itself.

How that is difficult is beyond me... easiest vacuum to empty that I have ever owned.

    • I have a Dyson Canister Animal (DC23?) and it's fine. Not like it is really that different from any other vacumn I have owned though. Definately a lot of hype like Monster Cables and whatever the word is for when people are brainwashed by the hype and then overblow and overexagerate how awesome it is when they finally get one. Essentially it sucks up stuff and is loud as hell so it seems impressive. Still can take multiple passovers to pick up chunks off teh ground like bits of paper/cardboard/mud/tiny finishing nails which is not really any different than the $99 dirt devil I had in university. I find the hose very stiff, something I read before purchase and was like 'who cares' but it actually is annoying and makes controlling the rolling canister more difficult. The only other thing I do not like is power button on the canister not the handle...you know how as soon as you start vacumning someone starts asking you something...well its annoying to walk back to the canister to turn off.

Canister is super easy to take off and empty so I like that 100x better than bags...if you end up creating a dust cloud trying to empty the canister then you are pretty stupid and lack common sence. Exhausted air is very clean so the centifugal cyclone tubes + hepa filter do do a good job of keeping whatever is sucked up, even small particles, inside the canister. $360 is a good price since that is a pretty generic vacumn price. $599 is more than it is worth.

The thing they do not tell you is the whole 'never lose suction' is bs. The cyclone tubes have a number of fine holes and these can get clogged with fine dust/pet dander quite easily decreasing performance. You are supposed to clean the cyclone housing from time to time with compressed air which is something most people except home mechanics tend not to have readily available, leaving you to use those canisters of compressed air like 'dust off' which are expensive. Something to think about.

    • I bought this same one over a year ago (refurbished from Dyson website) and it has been great! No problems and find it especially easy to do stairs with the motor attachment (just keep the hose that connects to the motor head compressed so it's short). Would not hesitate recommending this vacuum to others.

    • From what I've heard about the refurbished models, they're very similar to factory new models. But you only get two years of warranty instead of five, so you sort of have to decide if that's worth the extra price.

    • Amazon.com's regular prices are pretty close to our refurb prices.

Wouldnt it be cheaper to have them shipped to the border?

    • So what's the lowdown on Dysons? I'm using a 15 year old panasonic one and it's starting to get a bit old..

I've been wary of their products in the past ($600 vacuum cleaners, expensive "bladeless" fans, etc), are they the best bet at this price? Or are there other decent vacuum cleaners?
