Home Depot: Trade in You Old Gas Lawnmower/Trimmer and Receive Up to $100 Rebate Toward a New Model

Home Depot: Trade in You Old Gas Lawnmower/Trimmer and Receive Up to $100 Rebate Toward a New Model
This deal has expired! This deal has expired!
Home Depot has a great offer for your wallet, your yard, and the environment:

From April 17 to April 27, 2008, bring in your working or non-working gas lawnmower or trimmer and receive up to a $100 instant rebate on the purchase of a push-reel, electric, rechargeable or low emission gas lawnmower or trimmer. The fine print goes on to state that the $100 rebate will only be valid on specific specific models. By the looks of the flyer, trading in an old mower or trimmer will convey a $100 rebate on select cordless lawnmowers, $30 to $50 on select corded models, and $10-$20 on select manual push mowers. You can see the promotion in the eFLYER at the top left of the HomeDepot.ca homepage.

If you've got a decrepit, old, or broken lawn mower or trimmer and are looking for fewer headaches and cleaner air, this offer is definitely worth investigating.

    • Awesome!

Thanks a lot OP, I just got a free non-working gas lawn mower from craigslist and will be getting one of those neuton battery mowers!!!

I was going to spend the same money 2 days ago on Walmart but I thought of looking more as it seemed low quality to mee, good I waited!

Also, I called HD and confirmed, but it is only on selected units which are energystar, I guess only electric ones...

    • Too bad. I was going to bring in my old manual reel mower for a cordless electric one.

    • By looking at the flyer it seems to me like it is $100 coupon on the cordless ones, $30 to $50 on the corded ones, $10-$20 on the manual ones and $20 on the trimmers...

So the amount depends on what you buy, not on the mower you leave....

EnergyStar compliant is probably a given, I don't think it's necessarily just electrics. Here's the blurb from the e-flyer:

"Bring in your working or non-working gas lawnmower or trimmer and receive up to a $100 instant rebate on the purchase of a push-reel, electric, rechargeable or low emission gas lawnmower or trimmer."

    • Does anyone know how long this will be one for? I was going to buy a Neuton mower for the new house next month, and I'm sure I can pick up a dead lawnmower somewhere out there for free. I'd prefer not to ick this up until next month, because I don't have much room for a moewr right now...

    • The online flyer says the deal is April 17th to 27th on selected SKU models only while quantities last. I imagine the popular models will sell quickly.

    • it is a good deal, but it's a stupid concept. like gas powered lawn mowers are really going to make a difference to the environment. They use almost no gas, it's completely negligible when compared to a car/truck/boat etc. Good marketing ploy for HD, though

The Neuton doesn't seem very durable. It says "Battery charges in 12 hours and will last up to 5 years with proper care." So it dies after 5 years?

    • From what I understand, lawnmowers do make a big difference. I just punched in the numbers for my lawnmower running one hour and driving my car for 100km and got 6x more Carbon Monoxide from the lawnmower and 75% of the NOx (g) + THC (g) compared to the car.

Try it at this CDN government website.

      Mow Down Pollution
The Home Depot Canada will be hosting the 8th Annual Mow Down Pollution event at all its locations across Canada from April 17-27, 2008. This national event is the largest gas lawnmower retirement and recycling program in Canada.

During this event, the Clean Air Foundation and The Home Depot Canada invite you to turn in your old, higher-polluting gas lawn- mowers and trimmers to your nearest The Home Depot store in return for an instant rebate of up to $100 on an energy-efficient, low-emission alternative. Your lawnmower will be responsibly recycled too!

      Did you know that:
Inefficient 2-stroke gas-powered lawnmowers can emit the same amount of common air pollutants released in one hour as driving a new car for over 550 kilometres.
Gas-powered lawn equipment release about 80,000 tonnes of emissions in Canada every year, and use 151 million litres of gas.
Garden equipment is responsible for between 3 - 5 % of Canada's air pollution.
      But there are great alternatives!
Push reel, cordless, and electric mowers and cordless trimmers are an ideal and environmentally friendly solution for lawns - they eliminate harmful emissions, accidental fuel spillage and reduce noise pollution.
The energy cost for an electric mower is typically no more than $5.00 per year.
Today's push mowers are lighter, weighing only 16 to 30 pounds as compared to 40 to 60 pound models of the past.
Reducing ground-level pollution helps people with asthma and existing respiratory conditions. Mow Down Pollution has already successfully retired over 18,000 lawnmowers and trimmers, resulting in the elimination of over 406 tonnes of greenhouse gases and smog forming emissions.

Join us this year to help Mow Down Pollution!
