but a lot of people in the last dyson refurb threat complained about how beat up their order was when they got it. mine works fine, but it came dirty and scratched up like it had been used for a year and returned because it was broken, not used for a day and returned to the retailer... as dyson suggests. buyer take note.
The canister, unit itself, and the attachments all looked new.
The only thing that looked used was the long tube that retracts - it looked a little worn but not a big deal.
At Target in the states it is $399 regular price for a brand new one, and $219 when on sale recently, plus another $80 gift card, but YMMV.
Unless you are in the US often, chances are it'll be out of stock pretty quickly if they ever go on sale again at the $219 sales price.

Love my Dyson!
I've got 1K sq ft of hardwood and 2 dogs - do you think it is suitable?
Thought I'd share my thoughts on my experience/reasoning for going Dyson refurb.
I bought my upright Dyson refurb in the summer of 2009 for about half the price of retail. The way I saw it: Retail had a 5 year warranty, refurb had a 2 year warranty. If it lasted two years and then died, then I'd have buy a "new refurb" in 2011 and still be ahead (as long as the new one didn't die right at 2 years too). I understand I'm comparing full retail price, but in general in Canada you don't get much more than 10-15% savings on Dyson vacuums.
The vacuum is now three years old and going strong (two dogs, child, and relatively heavy usage). The way I see it I'm ahead.
I also picked up the latest cordless model brand new in the US (on sale) and am very happy with it. It worked out to about half the price of Canadian retail and I use it for cleaning the mess my toddler makes, vacuum the stairs (the one thing my upright stinks at), and to clean my car once a week. I love it.
Anyways, long story short I know there are complaints about Dyson's not being of as high quality as years ago, and the refurbs coming in used... but I've only had a great experience. And with the warranty and ability to return the damaged/used vacuum - I don't see much of a risk.
These vacuums definitely pick up a lot more than your average hoover and are well worth the price.
Now I have a question: Does anyone have experience with the canister vacuums? Do they suck as strong as the uprights, and do they store as much dirt? The upright is a bit heavy and awkward for both my cleaning lady to carry, so if it ever dies I'm wondering if the canister is a good replacement.
And thanks for posting op!
I wasn't happy and called Dyson. The manager explain that these are indeed used and return item. They never intended to sell "near new" stuff as refurb....
So far I love it, it does an amazing job on hardwood floors (which it comes with a head specifically designed for it)
I'll spoil the CR reviews for you. the only dyson they recommend is the Dyson DC28 Animal. and they recommend two Hoover and two LG ahead of it. their best buy is a Hoover WindTunnel T-Series Rewind Bagless UH70120 for around $150, and it has excellent user reviews as well. compare that to $400+ for the LG and dyson which they don't think is any better. PS: it is worth noting that the highest rated bagless vacuums (the category dyson competes in) have slightly lower ratings than the highest rated bagged ones.
vacuums vary a lot on mutually exclusive attributes, and your choice of vacuum should depend on your preferences for these attributes, not the brand name. do you need a light vacuum? do you need a bag to keep the dust away from you? do you need it to be awesome at carpets? do you need it to be awesome at pet hair? do you need it to be quiet? you can't get it all one one vacuum.
How do I use the warranty service? Do I have to pay for shipment?
