I have a refurb DC31 from a year ago and it's still going strong, so I have no use for the regular DC34.
I really wanted it animal style.
After a call with Dyson -- here are the options:
the dyson products seem to work fine even when dirty and beat up, so credit to the original designers. but the canadian refurb department is weak.
Thanks for all your efforts Kate M.
"Thank you for your e-mail.
We apologize as this was a web error on our part. We do not currently
have any refurbished DC34 Animal vacuums and we are not aware at this
time when we will.
By all means you may return your DC34 for a refund if you so choose. If
you wish to keep the DC34, we will be more than happy to provide you
with a $20 refund.
Please let us know your decision. "
I guess I'm keeping it, assuming I get it eventually.
They would need to catch this mistake and speak with customers before shipping out the wrong item (wrong as per advertised details on their site and invoice). If you click to purchase the DC34 Animal and the invoice indicates the same then customers have the right to expect the product no matter how they priced it. Customers are in the right to either force them to cover all costs to get a full refund, receive an exchange to get the unit they purchased as per the sale confirmation and invoice and if they refuse to do either, collect all those emails of their refusal and then dispute the charge with your credit card company. As long as you have done your due diligence to resolve the matter than you are in the right considering the current conditions. You are essentially in a legal contract with Dyson in which they have stated that for the price of $120 you will receive the DC34 Animal. They still haven't made any changes to their site to indicate any incompetence on their part. They proceeded to invoice you based on the Animal. The part they did not fulfill in this engagement is give you the right product. It's up to them now to make it right for you or else you are in the right to dispute the charge.
"DC34 is being shipped, and customers are receiving their orders. We did receive complaints from 4 customers this morning [that was yesterday morning] that they received DC34 and it’s not an animal. The difference is in the brush head, and we are trying to find a solution for this at this moment. We advertised the product as DC34 animal and it should have been DC34. It’s my oversight. The price and everything else was correct. The customers weren’t charged for DC34 animal, but the marketing copy stated DC34 Animal. To confirm, the orders are shipped and the price was correct. I’ll let you know how are we dealing with this issue."
I followed up and let them know about the bad customer service dux received. Will keep you posted!

Called Dyson, and the first agent I spoke to told that their system shows that I ordered the normal DC-34 and since it is a refurbished product the sale is final and I can't return it. When I insisted to talk to his supervisor he hung up on me. So I called back to the French queue, and he allowed me to return the item. With that said I will never purchase a Dyson product ever again, they have the worst customer service ever.
I would like to see if anyone actually got an 'animal' version of the vac, or if they really are telling the truth that the only ones available are the normal ones.
so if you just want the most intense dust buster ever, the dc34 is it. if you want to go A LEVEL BEYOND, there is only dc35.
I ordered a DC34 Animal, they shipped me a DC34 plain today. Said my model number I ordered was a plain and why do I want the attachment?!
So I am now dealing with the pleasant people of Dyson support.
Hopefully everyone else who ordered checks to make sure they got a Animal!
I went through Great Canadian Rebate site, then pasted the last part of the link provided by the original poster to arrive at the refurb DC34 Animal. A $3 kick back has just appeared in my GCR account.
Thanks OP
I've used it on 4 sets of stairs, the floors of multiple rooms, 3 ceiling fans and other smaller areas in a single use and it was still going strong(of course I had to stop to empty the canister a couple times due to it's size). This was on MAX setting too. I've yet to run out of a charge while using it and that's WITH the motorized floor tool that supposedly uses more of the battery.
We also own a DC33 model, but lately this little handheld has been getting a lot more use. I think it's fantastic around the house.
