    • Why do they even make (snow) shovels with straight handles any more? The curved handles are SO MUCH BETTER.

    • Thanks OP. I will check out after work today.
With the nasty weather we have been having, I will be surprised if there have any left.
25cm snow Monday, 25mm rain yesterday, 15cm snow last night and -20C now....nasty.

      Agree.

When you have to do a full driveway the curved push shovels are by far the best. Could never go back to a straight scooper.

I keep having to tape my handle up since last year lol, so disappointed not to see any of those type on sale.

Not to brag.. but we've been extremely lucky this year, most major snow just barely missed NS and it's +11 right now only snow left is in the ditches.

I'll go into hiding now since majority of the country hasn't been so lucky.

    • What's so great about these curved shovels, I have used a curved shovel before and did not enjoy it.
      An I doing it wrong?

I consider the curved shaft to be cosmetic and a good marketing ploy. It serves no functionality. Can someone who raves about curved shafts be more specific?

For me, it's because the wrist of your leading/bottom hand doesn't have to be turned downward so far when scooping. It's a nice, comfy angle.

Depends where you are. At my house, we still have snow on the ground. And the big mounds of snow from piling it up each storm will be there for a while.

In the city, no, there is no snow left.

I've contemplated getting one but was hesitant because it looks like it would be more of a pain for lifting/dumping snow since I have to raise my forward hand even higher. Am I incorrect in thinking this?

I found they were of worse build quality than the straight shovels as I was able to bend one (at it's factory bends) during normal shoveling. I have never been able to do that with the straight ones (same brand, same type of shaft). After that I just stopped using the curved ones.

That's exactly the reason why I did not like using one. The bend makes it way more awkward to throw the snow.

I believe it creates a sort of trade off............... makes it easier on the lower back, but requires more arm effort. Most people would prefer this.

    • not a fan of curved shovels myself... like TrevorK I've had a couple bend at the factory bend spots as well.

    • That's a grain scoop!

... I mean, yeah, you could shovel snow or horse-hay or whatever with it, but you'll just contaminate the grain afterwards. Seriously, who washes their grain scoop?
All I'm saying is, if you need a grain scoop, great. If you need a snow shovel, then buy yourself a snow shovel.

Don't contaminate your grain! That's all I'm saying.

    • No to hijack, since this is a big YMMV...

      Costco Pointe-Claire has:
      - a great combo: Suncast 27in snow shovel/pusher with metal wear strip, plus a Suncast ice scraper for 14.97$

      - a regular, smaller Suncast ~18in snow scoop with metal wear strip for 6.97$
Purchased this set from Costco, absolutely hate it. It will be going back. The metal edge is too fine and gets caught where the concrete meets on my driveway and sidewalk. Doesn't work for me, so will check out Canadian Tire to see if they have a better one on sale. Thanks OP!
