For me, a few specific items make the Costco membership worth it to me. For example, I purchase the Kirkland Dress Shirts at $19.99-$24.99 to wear at work, and I typically go through 3-4 shirts a year. Considering that a shirt of comparable quality would run me $70-100 from a retail store, buying a few shirts a year is already worth the money I spent on the membership.
For the average family, even household supplies alone is worth getting a membership for. Toilet paper, detergents, soaps are all significantly cheaper than most other places.
6215 per year is 518 per month. 6215*0.02=124.30 which is 110+tax which is the cost of the membership.
Someone gave me a gift card that I can use for membership, been sitting on it for a year, waiting for a deal on something I want. Time to cash it in if the membership is going up.
With membership, I understand that you don't need a receipt for returns. And they have a good return policy.
They have been running a deal with Ford for the last few years that gets you $1,000 a vehicle. So if you are thinking about buying a Ford you need to buy a card a year ahead.
Maybe no membership fee would bring them new shoppers though and they will be able to keep their prices as low....etc...who knows
Everyone will come to their own conclusion.
Living in Quebec, i'm not impressed with Provigo or IGA plans so far.
no one is forcing anyone to pay for a Costco membership, totally optional if you feel the value is there for your shopping needs
For example, in France the well known grocery store called Carrefour, let you earn money on some products and you can apply the money you saved instantly on your current receipt, or you can cumulate it ...it s a free card that they gave you.
They already making money using our informations, so why paying for more that's my point.
Word! Gas savings are even more when you have to use 91, most times it's at least 15 cents cheaper.. depending on how often you fill up, you can break even on membership within a few months
Propane I pay around $8-9 to fill a tank, elsewhere it's usually close to $20
Also those Adirondack chairs, they sell them for $150 regular.. casually browsing around other furniture places I see them going for $300 for the exact same chair! So I was even happier when I got a couple on clearance from Costco for $100!
No need to buy all your stuff there, shop smart and the membership easily pays for itself
The basic membership will pay for itself just from the savings on gas/propane purchases and is worthwhile for that alone.
Costco in general has savings on some items but not for others, for instance eggs are always more $ than the grocery store (for normal packs)
cannot beleive that people paying a membership to buy. (even with deals)
Should be the other way around almost.
Coming from France i find that concept disturbing.
FYI, not eligible if your membership get expired and sign up again
