2) Putting the 'savings' in a gift card. Thus forcing you to buy more again later on. The chances are that some people will never use their gift card because they lose it or forget where they put it.
3) It's damn near impossible to buy exactly $5 at bulk barn - you will either go over or go under. They win either way since their products are sometimes priced 2-3x more than grocery stores.
The $3 off $10 is an instant savings. Much better - since it is out of their pocket right away instead of out of yours with some vague promise that some day you will get it back on the return visit. But you are still forcing yourself to pay for something that costs a lot more than in grocery shops. The only reason to visit bulk barn is for specialty items you cant find anywhere else.
And i find it hard to limit myself to $10 for the usual coupon deal. Last time I got choc almonds and trail mix, together a scoop of each was $12.
With this deal you pay $15 for $20 of product = 25% off
With the $3 off $10 deal you pay $7 for $10 worth of product = 30% off
Now to maximize the potential of both these deals, you spend $15 now to get $15 worth of product plus the $5 gift card. Then you wait until the next $3 off $10 coupon deal and use the gift card, essentially getting you another $10 worth of product for only $2. In total you end up spending $17 for $25 worth of product which works out to a savings of 32%
