    • oh good i have been waiting for this .... hmmm. last fall it was $250 promo:

      http://forums.redflagdeals.com/hot-t...ect-c-1065914/

TD Canada Trust is once again offering up to $250 cash for customers opening new accounts. I took advantage of this last year as we were in the process of consolidating all our accounts under the TD roof anyways. If you are able to keep a $5,000 balance, the TD Select Service account provides excellent value:

      - Unlimited banking, free cheque books, free bank drafts etc.
      - Fee waived on the Borderless account.
      - Fee waived on the TD Gold Elite Visa card. 1% cash back, Auto club membership and trip interruption insurance.
      - A small safe deposit box.

Not really any catch, TD does this quite often.

Don't worry same boat here, switched from a student account to a Select Service account just a couple months back!

I'm pretty sure if you don't have a Select Service Account already, you can change your old account to a select service and take part in the promotion.

Damn... I switched to a SS account on March 1... wonder if I'm SOL in getting the bonus...

    • It really irritates me that TD is the one bank (excluding online only banks) that keeps doing this. Nothing to keep existing customers around (like how the Every Day Savings acct. interest keeps dropping, ever since they renamed it from GIA).

    • Here's how you can take advantage of this great offer:

      Open either:
A new Select Service account – a premium, all-inclusive account where virtually all your banking needs are covered
      OR
A new Infinity Account – a worry-free chequing account that gives you unlimited transactions

      conditions:
a.Complete one recurring and eligible regular Direct Deposit
      AND
b.Complete two Bill Payments (via Pre-Authorized Debit or EasyWeb – including Mobile App) OR sign up for a new Pre-Authorized Transfer Service

The everyday savings account isn't/wasn't the GIA account, it's just a regular savings account. The high(er) interest account with all the withdrawal restrictions is now the High Interest Savings Account. I think the HISA interest rate is sitting around 1.2%, which is lower than ING etc but for people who want a brick and mortar big bank, it's not too too bad.

      1. Recurring direct deposit - probably your payroll (or rent income if you're a landlord, or something like that).

      2. Bill payments - either sign up for Pre-Authorized Debit by sending the PAD form or a void cheque to whoever you want to pay automatically (e.g. Rogers/hydro/city tax etc), or make two manual bill payments online through TD Easyweb.

So you have to open your account and do both 1 and 2 in order to get the bonus.

      1) Re-occuring direct deposit. Ex: Bi-weekly pay cheque.

      2) Pay 2 bills. Ex: Rogers bill + Enbridge bill. OR, agree to a Pre-Authorized Transfer service, which is where you specify a re-occurring transfer from your Infinity/Select Service account to another account. Ex: Automatically move $5 on the 1st of the month towards your savings account.

    • And typically you have to keep your account open for a period of 3 months I believe. Also, whenever they have these promos, there's usually a matching promo for existing customers that they DON'T advertise. They only let you know about it once you ask typically.

The fine print will usually tell you that you don't get your $150 right away. You have to wait I believe usually around 6 months. By then if you didn't have the minimum monthly balance in your account the fees alone would make up for most of the loss.

      Fine Print:
1 This offer is available to individuals 19 years of age or older who open a qualifying new personal TD Canadian Dollar Chequing Account (the Account) between March 5, 2012 and May 11, 2012 and meet all other conditions. The Direct Deposit and Bill Payments or Pre-Authorized Transfer Service must be completed through the Account. Limit of one cash bonus per customer and per joint account. Cash bonus will be deposited to the Account by July 31, 2012 if all conditions have been met. This offer can be changed, extended or withdrawn at any time and cannot be used in conjunction with any other offer or discount for the same product. Conditions apply.
2 Subject to credit approval. Annual fee waiver applies only to Primary Cardholder unless otherwise indicated and only for so long as the Infinity Account remains open. All other applicable fees and charges continue to apply.

It's not 6 months, it by July 31, 2012. Which, if you time everythign perfectly, is only 2months.

    • Thanks OP.

For anyone that has already done this, is the annual fee on the TD First Class Travel Infinite Visa card waived as long as you have the Select Service account with them or is it just the first year?

It seems pretty good if I only need to keep the minimum balance in order to get the fee of $120 waived.

I called and was told the promotion is for the customer who currently hasn't any type of chequing account with TD, account upgrade is not qualified.

    • Doesn't say it's for new customers only, looks good to get $150 tax free in 3-4 months - assuming the best interest rate is around 2%, so 4 months on $3500 is around $25 (and you have to pay tax on it).

I had to go there anyway to close an account, will open the infinity and temporary transfer my dd from work. Bills are no issue

I'm not sure I follow your train of thought on this..lol

These promos are always for new customers. But as I said they'll usually have an unadvertised similar offer for existing customers who ask as well. Infinity and Select Service accounts are both Canadian dollar chequing accounts, and no Canadian dollar chequing accounts pay any interest. You might be getting the chequing and savings accounts mixed up. Either that or I'm misinterpreting what you're saying.

I meant that you could put the $3500 into savings account (the minimum balance to get the fee waived), and you'd get about $25 in interest return for 4 months.

I know these promo usually run for new customers, but it's usually written in the fine print. This time it's not, so they will hard time justifying why they won't give you the money
