MBNA has just released a new credit card that's pretty attractive if you buy a lot of gadgets. The MBNA SonyCard MasterCard has no annual fee, and a nice welcome offer. You get 2000 Sony points after your first qualifying purchase, and you get a free Sony Reader Wi-Fi after your first five purchases. Here's a closer look at the card features:

No annual fee
1.99% annual interest rate (AIR) on balance transfers, access cheques and deposits for the first 6 full months
Earn Sony Points with every qualifying purchase made on your SonyCard MasterCard credit card
Earn 2,000 bonus Sony Points after your first qualifying purchase.
Total household income of $35,000 or greater required for card eligibility

The Sony Reader Wi-Fi currently retails for $119.99 at the Sony store, so there's definitely a nice sign-up incentive. Note that your first five purchases must be made by May 31, 2012 to qualify.

- There are no restrictions or minimums on the 5 purchases as far as we know.

- I contacted them, apparently qualifying purchases are "retail purchases" of any amount. So, it doesnt include deposit orders and bank transfers, but who actually thought it would. Seems like a straight forward deal, as long as they send out the cards in time for us to make 5 purchases by May 15 or w/e.

- Confirmed with George through live chat at MBNA (re:sony card )that any purchase regardless of value qualifies as a purchase. So there is no minimum amount needed to be a "qualifying purchase".

- If it's too good to be true.... read the fine print as you sign up. You basically give them free reign use and without restriction sell your name, address, income, phone number, employer, employers ph. number etc. etc. They can revoke their offer at any time, any reason etc. Sony will inevitably have more sign ups than e-readers. Corporations dangle one little candy in front of us and we are prepared to lick their boots? Prostitution might offer more dignity than this sony e-reader.

  i guess i'm not that surprised by what they say they can do with the data - think it's what ALL the companies will do.

- I got my reader a few days back, but I also got an invoice in the mail now to pay for the Reader. Is this blatant fraud, or was there some fine print that RFD and we didnt get to?
