Free Microsoft Money Sunset Editions

Free Microsoft Money Sunset Editions
This deal has expired! This deal has expired!
Microsoft Money wasn't a money maker for Microsoft and the 2009 edition was the last full edition of their personal finance and small business finance software. The good news is that they've now released fully free versions of the personal finance software for everyone in the form of Money Plus Sunset Deluxe and Money Plus Sunset Home and Business.

The software won't be updated in the future and you won't be able to call Microsoft for support, but they certainly still deserve a big thumbs up for releasing their previously paid money management software to everyone for free -- that's definitely good for your pocketbook!

    • Is anyone else getting an error message about this download not being a valid Win32 application? I'm running Windows 7.

Nevermind, just kept trying and eventually it worked.

    • "Please note that Money Plus Sunset versions come preconfigured with: · No online services (no online quotes, no bill payment, no statement downloads initiated by Money, no data sync with MSN Money online services, etcâ€Â&brvbar · No support services (support services are limited to online self-help only, see Money Plus Sunset EULA and Microsoft’s Support Lifecycle pages for more details) · No need to activate the product"

Seems not very useful if you can't download online statements.

    • been using this free version for several months now - very good and stable...

basically all the same stuff as previous versions of money except for the online crap - I have never used that anyway - I do mine all manually (makes me feel more in control )

Can anyone confirm that it doesn't support download of online statements at all. I use an old version of premium that had its subscription to MSN online expire oon me years ago but standard download of online statements continues to work to this day.

I also fail to understand why my version wouldn't keep on working forever. I don't see why they would turn it off. Maybe the banks would change their system and then we'd have a problem but until then why should it not continue to work?

I downloaded this, and although it won't connect to the bank directly and download the statements automatically, you can go to your bank website and download the statement yourself. Then in Money, you simply click on the File menu, and click Import. Works like a charm!

Well, that's something. That's actually the process I use for my accounting system.

In Money 2007, when I download something from the bank using a browser, the browser would tell me data had been exported and ask whether I want to start Money automatically. If I answered yes, Money would open with a dialog box indicating that data had been imported. Do you know if it goes that far?

    • Doesn't do it automatically on my PC (windows 7 using chrome as the browser), however I just tested it and if you find the downloaded file wherever you saved it, and click (or double-click) on it, it then starts Money automatically and imports the file.

    • Nice post! Downloading Home and Business... has anyone found deluxe better? (I don't have a home business but I thought I would install the 'better?' version).

Not sure if this is posted in the finance forums but I am sure lots of the readers there would appreciate this post.
