File Your Tax Return For Free with Studio Tax (Windows Only)

File Your Tax Return For Free with Studio Tax
This deal has expired! This deal has expired!

Tax Season is just around the corner, and if you're looking to pinch pennies you might want to file with Studio Tax! It's a free, CRA certified tax program that can handle federal and provincial returns. And, it allows you to file electronically with NETFILE, which typically results in a faster turn-around time. Unfortunately, Studio Tax only works on Windows computers, so those of you with Macs are out of luck.

While the interface isn't as polished as a paid tax program might be, Studio Tax has an excellent reputation in the RedFlagDeals.com forums.

    • Likewise,
I have done mine, my wife's and 2 daughter's returns for the last 4 years and have been verry happy with the software.
It takes a liitle effort to get used to it at first, but once you do, it is quick and painless to do a return.

    • I've used this every year for the past 4 or 5, works great.
Same here and I even had donated to them to thank for their work.

Alternatively, there is a new comer since last year. It can be found at udotaxes.com. Unfortunately I have not seen any updates regarding the 2011 program - I will keep my eyes open and post any news if I get to it fast enough.

So to recap, the 2 free tax programs (both are equally good and can do netfile, etc)
      - Studiotax.com
      - udotaxes.com

      You are welcome.

I doubt it and StudioTax only imports their own files. You'd have to manually input last year's info if you wanted it in there.

    • anyone knows how to see how the fed div tax cr and on div tax cr (prov workdsheet) was calculated, when I click on the field it just says computated field, but I can't see what numbers it used to calculate it. Also, does anyone know how to add an extra line to schedule 4 carrying charges, there is only 1 line there now but I have 2 carrying charges so I need to add another line.

    • Hello Everyone,

I have used this program for more than 5 years and it is great!

Does anyone know if a Mac version is out yet? I heard that they were working on this awhile ago (I might be wrong though...)

      Thanks!

fed Dividend tax credit is going to be about 16.44% of grossed up dividend income on line 120 (assuming this is a Canadian public corp) [the exact credit is 13/23 of the dividend gross-up]

      the Ontario credit is 6.4%

    • If you have been using this program for a few years, take some time and send the company $5 or $10 bucks for their efforts and service.
