Steam Midweek Madness: The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim $39.99 US (Ends Thursday)

If you missed arguably the Game of the Year in 2011, Steam has put The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim on sale for $39.99 US. This deal won't last long, however, as the promotional price will end on Thursday at 7pm EST. In addition, Steam has also put a couple of the older Elder Scrolls titles on sale as well just in case you haven't had a chance to catch up on the series. Here's a look at the total list of games on sale:

The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind Game of the Year Edition - $9.99 US was $19.99 US
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Game of the Year Edition - $9.99 US was $19.99 US
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim - $39.99 US was $59.99 US

You'll need the Steam client to download the games and you've probably already guessed they're available for digital download only. These games are quite large in file size so it would be best to make sure you have enough bandwidth before you start downloading.

The sale ends Thursday at 7pm EST.

- Different steam coupons were given out at as promo during the steam winter sale. There are bethesda and skyrim coupons out there for 25, 33 and 50% off.

- Not sure what to do now. I was just about to email someone selling their used PS3 copy for $40 (which is all I can afford on games right now) but seeing it for the same price on Steam is tempting.

  For real question: are the other Elder Scroll games worth it? I know they were probably really awesome in their day, but do they hold up?

- Alright, so I've admittedly been drawn toward Skyrim by all the hype surrounding it. I'm not much of an RPG player though. Been trying it out a little with Fallout 3 (purchased during the Steam holiday sale) and its not really grabbing me. I just find that I spend too much time running between spots or looking for some specific dude to talk to and not enought time in any sort of actual action. I haven't given up on it yet but, in general, I'd rather blow things up that solve puzzles

  This game is more about exploration, if you like to experience varied and beautiful landscapes and be immersed in a world then it's right for you. The combat is decent, it is no Dark Souls, it's not an action game. The story is also lackluster and there will be no memorable characters. But again, it's a vast world you can experience, it's pretty much an RPG-ers paradise.

  I should totally buy this, bring it to the gym on my laptop and walk on a treadmill while playing it. Just add an extra level of realism to it lol

  what more do you need to know? fallout has more explosions than skyrim, and you dont like fallout. skyrim is not for you.

  I absolutely hated the Fallout games, but I love the elder scrolls games. Just generally seems more exciting and the lore is more immersive. I'd say it's definitely worth a shot and plus, dragon shouts.
