Steam Midweek Madness: Bastion $5.99 US, Dustforce $4.99 US (Ends May 3)

Steam Midweek Sale: Bastion $6 US, Dustforce $5 US
This deal has expired! This deal has expired!

If you have some time to kill and around $10 US in your bank account, you might want to head on over to Steam where they've put two pretty good games on sale. Until Thursday at 4pm PST, you can pick up Bastion for $5.99 US and Dustforce for $4.99 US. If you don't think your computer can handle it, fear not as both are equipped to run on low end machines as well.

Bastion is more of your classic RPG-style title where you'll spend around 10 hours levelling up your character, buying weapons and upgrades and enjoying the unique narrative style. It scored very well and is a must for fans of the genre. You can even play a demo through the Chrome browser here, which goes to show it doesn't need the resources of a high-end gaming PC to run smoothly.

Dustforce is a unique platformer in its own right as you'll traverse the landscape as an acrobatic janitor whose job it is to, well, dust! Think Prince of Persia but with more parkour and a different art-style. Dustforce also received some pretty good scores and would make for a good time killer as well.

The deals are live now and will expire at 4pm PST on Thursday. The games are available for digital download only through Steam.

    • Both being indie games (inevitable bundle deals) and not 75% off, I have to wait. But for something to play right now, can't go wrong with either one, Bastion is worth the extra dollar if deciding between the two.

    • Ooh, Dustforce. Looks very intriguing, that one.

But indeed, Steam's summer sale is probably going to start up any time now, and it will probably wind up lower than $4.99, if it doesn't get tossed into a bundle first.

    • Bastion was disappointing for me. The artwork is fantastic but the gameplay gets old pretty quick, and the controls felt clunky even at the best of times... at least to me. Still pretty cool game at that price, though.

    • I also found Bastion disappointing. I cleared a few areas, and stopped playing. There is almost nothing to do, it is somelike like a modern version of the old arcade classic Gauntlet. Also, as mentioned, the controls are poor.

    • I agree about Bastian - great graphics and presentation but poor controls ruined it for me.

    • I'm going to have to go against the dissenters for Bastion.

I haven't completed it yet, but I am thoroughly enjoying it. If you are finding the controls lacking, I'd recommend using a controller. That's what I use while playing, and I'm having zero problems.

I played this on the Xbox 360, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It gets repetitive, but they stagger enough new weapon unlocks to keep it somewhat interesting. Best narrator in a video game IMO.

It's one of those games that's better played in spurts and not in long sessions, so the repetitiveness doesn't become an issue.

      Here's my review (Xbox 360)
