Did you know 2012 marks the 100th anniversary of Parks Canada? To commemorate the occasion, the Royal Canadian Mint has released a series of Legendary Nature coins. If you've been keeping an eye on your money, you may have noticed the Wood Bison quarter, which went into circulation in January. This month, the Orca quarter has been put into circulation, and the Peregrine Falcon is featured on next month's quarter. There is also a Park Canada loonie and Boreal Forest toonie.

On their Facebook page, the Royal Canadian Mint is giving out free collector cards to hold the coins. To get yours, just click on the "Get your collector card" tab on the page and enter your mailing information. Your card should arrive shortly afterwards.

There's a limit of one collector card per household, and it should be noted that the coins are not included (you'll have to look around in your change for those!).

Thanks to MrDisco in the forums for the heads up!

Haha, yep. The free collector card just brought the coins to my attention as well. I hadn't noticed any in circulation, but I'll have to keep an eye out now.

There are 3 designs and each design comes in a coloured and non-coloured variant so you'll want all 6 (plus the previous Loonie and Twoonie)

    • For those who ordered the new Legendary Nature Coins from the Royal Canadian Mint or have started to notice these coins in their change, you can now order the matching Collector Card from the Mint.ca for free. This is a great way to show off these new coins and to keep them secure in a nice looking presentation folder.

Limit 1/household (so please don't hoard!)

And don't forget, if you're in the big City, you can always grab a free one from your local Mint boutique during the orca coin exchanges happening tomorrow, Friday and Saturday (Vancouver, Winnipeg, and Ottawa)! While supplies last, of course.
