For those who don't know, this is simply one of the most breathtaking and visually stunning documentaries ever shot. I bought this series myself for 60 dollars way back when, and don't regret a penny (I even bought a copy specially with Chinese subtitles for my grandma to watch ^_^)
      This really is amazing!
I bought it for $45 a while back.

I'm waiting for the Blue Planet ones to come on sale. I heard those are amazing too.

    • Pretty good. Not quite as cheap as when B&N had Life on Blu Ray for under $20! That was a long time ago though. Good deal find.

Its been $28 cad after shipping from Amazon.co.uk for a long time. Also, uk has many other region free series for a fraction of the cost of amazon in north america. Eg. Wonders of the Solar System, Nasa's Greatest Missions, Saving Private Ryan, Band of Brothers, etc

This version is actually better, and comes up to 30ish dollars as well after shipping from the UK. This is a better deal IMO, but you'd have to wait about 1-2 weeks to get it here.
*Credit and thanks to lincoln for bringing this up*
      Why is this one better?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it comes to £17 => ~$22 CDN after shipping. Not sure why, but instead of £16.99, checkout basket shows £14.99 + £3.08 shipping. Don't know if custom fees apply...

This version, again correct if I'm wrong, contains the following extras that amazon.ca doesn't carry:
      - Two Natural World Films
      - Favourite Planet Earth Moments
      - 16-page booklet

So it looks like the UK version is a much better deal than amazon.ca?

    • I want to jump on this but if the UK version is better, Id rather just grab that,

2 things, amazon.co.uk says : "Please note that this product will not play on US spec 60i Blu-ray players as the Blu-ray discs are authored to UK 50i specs."

what exactly does that mean, will they work here for sure?

Also as someone else mentioned will there by any duties or anything....

      Thanks!!

YMMV for duties. I bought the bluray Harry Potter set from Amazon's UK website a couple of months back. I did not get hit with duties, the shipping came from Royal Mail, then Canada Post. However, other people who purchased the same product said that they got hit with duties. If you do a search on RFD for Harry Potter Blu Ray set, you can find the entire discussion there.

Not sure about the first bit either, I don't want to buy it and have it not play.

Oh. Lol what was I thinking. I used euro's instead of pounds.

      You're right. $26 CDN.

Which is what OP is saying that the UK version is better than CA.

    • Ok cool, I think Ill bite the bullet, it shows 17.24 (Pounds I think) total, which on xe is just about 27.14 CDN

basically a few bucks cheaper for the three extra gifts from what I've read, why not give it a go...

Thanks OP for mentioning this, another few bucks to add to the lifetime RDF total, which keeps growing, and growing........

My life is region free from UK so is Planet Earth (5 disk set -complete not special)

I only get hit with duties from UPS at Xmas from the UK. Usually Canada Post delivers -no duties.

50i spec Blu-rays won't play on PS3 or Sony Blu-ray players. I bought Wonders of the Solar System and it had the same warning and it won't work my hardware.

According to http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=457866 there's mixed playability with UK discs on NA PS3.

How can I check if my ps3 can play 50i spec BRs properly?

Bah, I've cancelled both my Planet Earth orders until I get more info. Sure I can play it safe with the CA version, but I'd rather get the UK one if it's a better deal.

    • FYI, the price goes down in the cart after the VAT is removed (since you're overseas). That's why some people report lower prices than others...

My PS3 (60GB fat) played Planet Earth perfectly. I don't think there's any worries here!

    • I purchased the same Planet Earth compilation from Amazon.co.uk and could not play any of the blu-ray discs on my Sony BDP-BX38 from Costco.

Contacted Amazon who without question sent another collection, but same problem.

After contacting BBC support (who now own 2entertain, the producer) they indicated it was a 50hz/60hz issue and that they had indeed informed Amazon UK about this issue.
