Half-Price Admission on Opening Day + More
This deal has expired! This deal has expired!

The Canadian National Exhibit -- also known as the CNE or The Ex -- opens its doors on Friday, August 17. To celebrate, general admission is $8, 50% off the regular price. Alternatively, If you have plans to go any other day, you can buy discounted tickets online or at Mac's Convenience. When purchased in advance, admission is $12 and a Ride All Day pass plus admission is $36. The regular price for a Ride All Day pass is $52 so the savings are pretty substantial. These Early Bird prices expire when The Ex opens, though, so you've only got until August 17 to take part.

The CNE is off Princes' Boulevard in Toronto and runs from August 17 to September 3 this year. There is a wide variety of attractions & shows and concerts and entertainment as well as more than 50 rides, dozens of food vendors and lots of shopping opportunities.

    • I'd love a black cat, but my 3 year old dog is probably the biggest wuss I've ever met, he's scared of everything. My cousin brought over his 3 week old Bichon Frise, and she chased my dog around the house, took his food and toys while my dog whimpered at the top of the staircase (where the puppy wouldn't be able to climb to).

I'm afraid that bringing a kitty home would result in the kitten bullying my dog

Humane Society in California does $13 black cat adoptions (reg $70) on the 13th of each month so it isn't totally unprecedented

    • You can argue the California precedent is based on Halloween, superstition, etc. Plus, Toronto has a lot more political correct nutjobs (and that's saying something)

    • Ottawa did something similar this year. Just a reality of shelter supply and demand and adopter cognitive biases.

It's actually quite creative from a marketing standpoint. People will talk about it, share it with friends, and just generally find some amusement in it (good vibes). Overall, it spreads the message.

      +1

As a dog owner, I can't understand why some find this a laughable matter. If you have no good positive input, or you are not going to adopt a pet, go to Off Topic and voice your useless opinion there.

Wow. I din't see anything offensive written so far and calling people "jerks" doesn't give you much credibility as an "Administrator".

    • IMO, black dogs / cats are great. Their fur do not show as much on my work clothes which are mostly darker color. Same apply to car interior also.

Dude can't take a light hearted joke!
And BTW nazi's, I have actually adopted a black pet(dog). Have you?
So don't be trying to tell me I am disrespecting the cause, because I have more direct involvement with it than most ever will!

That's probably 'cause the racist, inappropriate comments have been deleted...you don't know if the term "jerks" applies... perhaps stronger terms were warranted, but as an "administrator" credibility wouldn't allow the use of stronger language...

    • it sucks how people don't like black animals. you'd think that with all the black history month we'd have learned to not judge people (or in this case animals) by the colour of their appearance... the next pup i get i'm gonna get a black one.

    • Cheap Cat
    • I had posted a thread last year here about black pets not being popular. I was shocked when I read that because I absolutely love black cats. In fact, if I went down there, I'd want them all. I have a weakness for black cats. Black cats are the best. I have two right now (you can see one as my avatar) and I grew up with one who was the most amazing cat ever. I was 4 when we got him and 24 when he died. I won't mention how long ago that was but we still speak of him frequently. The female black cat I have now is just the nicest, sweetest cat you could ever meet. My male is a character although he can be a pain at times, I still love him. All of them have/had amazing personalities. Those who don't like black pets don't know what they are missing. I'd take a black cat any day over a boring white cat. Black cats are just so beautiful.

I'm not much of a dog person which is why I've made my comments on black cats. My sister has a black dog (and a black cat) and they are nuts over this dog who is their big baby moreso than any other dog they've ever had.

Growing up, we had neighbours with a big alsatian - and a small cat that was clearly boss. They had the cat before they got the dog though.

As for us, we had a black cat. He was great. I can't understand why people would discriminate against black animals, but it sounds like that's the case. Must be some sort of outdated superstition or something.

    • Sadly there is a lot of superstition around black animals. Many folks think they are cursed and bad luck. (shakes head)

I'd adopt one if I had the time to commit, but life is too hectic right now.

    • It's not really about superstition or racism. It's mainly because people find black animals more intimidating, and other people are often more scared of them than others.

Yes, I agree. And the fact that it survived in the politically correct centre of the universe means there may be hope for society yet.
