Originally posted on July 17: The Canadian National Exhibit -- also known as the CNE or The Ex -- is around the corner and there are several money-saving promotions to take advantage of (beyond the pre-sale and opening day specials we mentioned here). Here's a look at the promos:

Monday through Thursday, admission will be $5 after 5 PM. This offer is not valid on Labour Day Monday.
Monday, August 20 and Monday, August 27, children under 13 years of age will get in for $2 when accompanied by a paying adult.
Tuesday, August 28, people under the age of 19 will get in for free from 10 AM to 3 PM.

The CNE is off Princes' Boulevard in Toronto and runs from August 17 to September 3 this year. There is a wide variety of attractions & shows and concerts and entertainment as well as more than 50 rides, dozens of food vendors and lots of shopping opportunities.

- They should change the name from CNE to CLF - Canada's Largest Flea market. I skipped the CNE for a number of years and went back year before last - what a waste. There actually used to be some interesting exhibits there, now it basically consists of the midway, casino, food building, and of course, the "flea market". Let me put it this way, when they advertise a "feature" for the year as deep fried Coke/Mars bars/whatever, you know they're getting desperate...

- Best food last year was the "Fried Onion" & "Pulled Pork Sandwich" hands down! It's still tradition to go to "The EX" every year, just now we take our kids!
  
  Mighty expensive however, but every year we help fellow RFD'ers with a corporate code to make the pain a little easier....especially for younger families!

  Deep fried bacon covered hotdogs are coming to Toronto. Yes, the CNE announced the new food items available this year and bacon looks to be the star attraction. While deep fried Mars bars, butter and donut cheeseburgers will all make return appearances in 2012, it's the trendy bacon that hopes to eclipse them all with the aforementioned hotdog, bacon and nutella and Jack Daniels bacon sandwiches, bacon parfait, bacon sundae, candied bacon and bacon popcorn all expected to grease CNE-goers stomachs.

- I don't get it..1/2 price admission for $8 ? Or is that supposed to say $4? Because I don't think the CNE (just ground enterance) ever cost $16 ?

- I remember getting in on opening day for 1$. For the amount of money I'll end up spending inside, entrance should always be 5$. Screw this.

- In 2009, Opening Day admission was $1.75 -- that was a 175th birthday promotion, though. It was $8 in 2010 and 2011.

- Anyone recall how much it was for rides last year? Wondering if it is worthwhile picking up a ride pass. Lat year, I only bought like a handful of tickets, but those went really quick.

- yay, all I need now a days is the $5 after 5pm. Don't need to spend a full day at the cne. Would usually go once or twice to casino and just walk around/.

- Of course I'm going, kids and wife ALWAYS want to go,lol. The shopping at the exhibition has been a waste of time the last few years other than the dvd tent
  Most of the clothing retailers that set up at the CNE also have the same deals at ORFUS RD, making the CNE a waste of time for clothing/kitchen gadgets.
  They REALLY need CNE exclusive deals in order to bring back more shoppers to the CNE. Rides are crap, food is crap and over priced, very little seating at the food building.
  The only real positive things I can say about the food building is that sometimes they have a deal or two at certain food booths and that they have clean bathrooms. Games are a joke and the stuffed toys are terrible.
  I would have to say that now a days the biggest draw is the shopping aspect of the CNE.

  Last year the TDSB had free admission for kids and parents had discounted tickets on a certain day - I remember I was stuck on a streetcar full of families and hearing parents talking about it.

- Remember the Alpine Way? it is back this year, sort of. shorter height and ride length but still a welcome addition to the CNE.
