Here's an oldie but a goodie. Right now, you can download the Adobe Creative Suite 2 absolutely free! If you haven't had the opportunity to get your feet wet with programs like Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign or Premiere, here's your chance to do so at no cost. The full program list includes:
- Acrobat 3D 1.0
- Acrobat Standard 7.0
- Acrobat Pro 8.0
- Audition 3.0
- GoLive CS2
- Illustrator CS2

They're giving away cs2 to reduce piracy of their current version, and for many people its just fine, but lets not pretend its CS2 is better than CS3 or any other release. That's just someone who hasn't used CS3, CS4, CS5, or CS6 now.
Don't spread nonsense.

But the content aware fill was pretty garbage for anything moderately complex and it always gave an amateur look to it, I always had to resort back to doing it manually with the clone stamp tool. Reducing noise is pretty easy if you play around with blurring duplicate layers and messing around with its levels. Yea, I guess a one-click noise reduction feature is great for a newbie photographer, but any designer could do that on their own. If you want to tinker with 3D, I'd suggest just trying out Blender for free and foregoing the half-baked 3D features in Photoshop. I actually can't believe Adobe was stupid enough to try and incorporate 3D features in a 2D raster image editor. What on earth were they smoking.
If I had to buy a version of Photoshop, and I wanted the most bang for my buck features-wise, I would get CS2, in my opinion. Yea, I'm not denying it'd lack the speed enhancements of later versions but content aware fill, noise reduction, those 3d tools are pretty useless features to me and most of them can be achieved with the native built-in tools by any competent designer therefore are just bloat to me. Again, my opinion. I don't disagree with your statement that they're doing that to reduce piracy, it's a pretty smart move.
edit: Deal is dead! :p
