1 Month of Xbox Live Gold for just $1

Microsoft has a tempting offer for all the Xbox 360 owners out there that have yet to sign up for Xbox Live Gold. For just $1, current free Silver members will be able to upgrade to a Xbox Live Gold membership for 1 month when they login to their Xbox Live accounts through their 360. There's no strings attached but you do have to provide a credit card and cancel if you don't want to continue with the Gold service - otherwise you'll be billed $8.99 per month.

If you're not familiar with Xbox Live, it's their online matchmaking service that allows you play games with your friends around the world but also much more. You'll get access to Gold members-only content, be able to share photos, get early access to content, and more. For a $1 it's a very low risk way to see if it's worth your money.

- It seems like might be able to change your renewal options on xbox.com as well, not sure cause I don't have a CC on file with them.

- this is kinda hot and for those people complaining about making a new account...FYI...you lose all your saves and characters and stuff like somone has already mentioned above...so $1 seems HOT IMHO

- Looks like you can't remove a credit card without putting another one in. The help about cancelling says "To cancel your Xbox LIVE membership, please call (800) 4MY-XBOX (469-9269)." They've really designed the UI to make it hard to cancel, though we'll see how hard it is to deal with the phone.
  
  The fact that they taunt you with a CC remove button but don't let it actually work makes me hate Live's payment system even more. Luckily, you can change the expiry or CSC number so hopefully any automatic payments will fail.

  how about changing the credit card expiry after paying for your month to the current month/year, when your renewal comes up in a month the "credit card" would be expired
