View allCurious if this thing can handle it.
If so i will be picking one up for the train.
Im almost certain it can handle x264 , im curious about x265 support.
If anyone could test would be hugely appreciated - thank you!
720p file preferrably , or even 1080p - if its less than those resolutions i dont need to know - yes i realize this screen is only 1280x800 - hence the 720p would be the best test
Also, there are three versions of the HP Stream 8 available in the US, two of these are now in Canada...
5801 without cellular modem, available at BB/FS in Canada
5901 with 4G modem, available directly from HP Canada
5909 - same as 5901 but Microsoft's Signature Edition, meaning it's plain vanilla Windows 8.1 w/o HP tools (aka bloatware), available directly from Microsoft USA, not yet in Canada, but can be found on Amazon and Ebay (I got one on eBay). I expect this model to eventually be available in Canada.
Looking at HP documentation for the Stream 8, it has a number of options for the cellular modem depending on the market where it's sold, although nothing gives any mapping of which version is available where. Just to say, one needs to be careful if purchasing a Stream 8 outside NA, to validate which cellular technology and frequency bands are supported in the particular model.
HP Stream 8 is also available in canada but as usual, no data plan included and it's not even the LTE model.
But will it work in canada?

sarcasm, by the way...
Just for the free office?
Has anyone found the backlighting a little uneven? The bottom edge of my screen is a bit brighter which is annoying. I'll probably exchange it unless they are all like that.
One thing that really "upsets" me how these store associate don't know much about what they sell. You don't even need to be trained just read and research your products before selling them. Like for example when I checked out the system asked her the sale rep to scan the serial and they scanned the UPC code and told her about it incase of warranty and she seemed clueless. Also When I asked about the ram on this tablet they said 32gb. I'm trying to be an smart ass or jack ass about this but I would except the Microsoft store to have better knowledge.

Is the 60 minutes of Skype per month for ever or is it until the Office 365 expires.
The only issue I still have is that WiFi will go out maybe 2 or three times a week and I have to disable and then re enable the wireless card driver. Haven't looked into it that much but that is a known issue and I haven't stumbled on a solution for that.
It's a great tablet.
