View allUpside is I got my $50 code
Microsoft Store is refusing to provide the promo even tho on the phone they promised to send me the code on September 27.
I called in on the 27th to get the 50$ promo for the purchase made on 22nd, the agent said he'd apply it after the laptop arrived to my doorstep (at that point it hadn't).
Fast Forward to October 05, still no code, now I Online chat with Microsoft Store support, they said too bad the promo is over:
they send it to the email you purchased with. I received mine on monday and used it to buy some headphones
do any of you see any automatic touches on the screen when you are flipping the screen back and forth?
Yep, you hit the nail on the head regarding MS spying in windows 10. Thanks for the tip.
Haven't used it extensively but I am impressed with performance so far.
My only concern is that the tablet mode may need some time to getting used to. I wished the monitor would pivot so that I don't mash the keyboard when I try to open it.
Also, I'm really not a big fan of Windows 10. Has anyone tried dual booting this to another OS or even doing a "downgrade" to windows 7?
The only thing I want that will make this laptop perfect for me is at least 500gb ssd. Did anyone try replacing ssd or know if it is possible to replace ssd without breaking warranty??!

on the cons - keyboard's abit shallow but doable, its heavy (for a tab) & the installed intel graphics driver is unstable but its easily solved with the newest intel beta driver.
so far, Mikey Likey
I noticed two small issues with the unit I was shipped. The first issue is minor and I think means my trackpad is a little loose as it gets a little too clicky for my tastes, almost as if it is moving a half a millimetre or so when I slide across with a finger. The second issue is the screen.
My screen seems to have an above average amount of bleed during the black Acer logo start up screen. I noticed this when I first booted up the laptop. I also noticed that something seems to be pressing against the back of the screen causing what I could only describe as a "plasma wave", this is common when you put too much pressure on screens from the back but in my case it seems to happen even when carefully lifting the laptop from the bottom base. The "plasma waves" seem to happen on the bottom left and bottom right of the screen edges most commonly.
I went to BB and tested their version and there wasn't nearly as much bleed or any plasma wave issue.
I'm going to request Microsoft send me another one and send me this back, unfortunately it seems to be out of stock everywhere. Hopefully I can get an exchange in time and can still capitalize on this great deal.
TL:DR Bought the laptop, great laptop but mine has an issue with screen bleed and "plasma waves" from slight touches. Going to exchange when laptop is in stock.
What do you guys do to reduce the oily/smudge from your fingers? I dont eat anything or drink when i'm on the laptop.
I believe Bestbuy also does the same thing. When an older model is being phased out, they sometimes reduce the retail price, probably to reflect inventory obsolescence. In this case, Acer just released the 2016 convertible models. The Spin 3 appears to be 2016 version of the R14, except that the screen size has been increase to 15 inches. The Spin 3 with the i5 6th generation cpu, 8gb ram DDR4, 256gb ssd is listed at USD$599 (which is USD$100 less than the retail price of the R14 in the US). The Spin 5 has a 14 inch screen I believe, but it hasn't been released.
