    • It's really depressing that new laptops still have terrible screen resolutions in this day and age. My POS lenovo laptop from 6 years ago that I'd love to replace even has a 1920 x 1200 resolution screen.

    • Only if the Y410P had a 1920x1080 screen.

      Edit.

It seems like the Y500 has good specs. How does the price compare to other laptops with similar specs? Is the Intel Haswell processor worth it?

    • I just looked on the driver website for y410, why does it say "Intel VGA Driver for 64-bit Windows" Does it mean it has an internal chip video card too?!

Yes it is. Haswell uses way less power. It's not a huge jump in performance but it'll get the most from your battery.

    • I've been going through Lenovo sales for almost a month now waiting and trying to pull the trigger on a laptop.

I want one for gaming and school, Not sure on the GT750M. But http://www.notebookcheck.net rates it at a top of Class 2 so almost high end.

Anyone have that card and can give me a big okay for it?!!

    • Price change?
I don't think so. If you look closely, those are the prices for the basic models, but most of the specs on that page have "Up to..." listed. If you go to the next page ("view models") with specific configurations, the Y410p that we have for $849 is $899.

    • Hey guys, I will be answering a few of the potential questions on theses products if you do not mind. Ive spent a good amount of time with the chat support and phone support of lenovo about theses products and will be pulling the trigger later today on them.
-On the contrary to popular belief and older statements, UPGRADING RAM & HDD upgrade to SSD WILL VOID YOUR WARRANTY WITH LENOVO
-y410 comes with SINGLE GRAPHICS, Ultrabay 750m not yet available, will sell for 229$
-y510 is available with bundled SLI GRAPHICS (added 750m in ultrabay, replacing DVD), although it is not available last time i checked, at the moment.
-The y410 and y510 DO NOT SUPPORT NVIDIA OPTIMUS The y410 is because the integrated graphics are disabled in the bios, the 510 aswell, when the 510 is the sli version, optimus is disabled because no sli compatibility.
-The bios is LOCKED in both models, downloading intel official chipset bios is possible, yet doesnt allow use of WIDI, even when bios enabled (frame buffer pins removed from cpu socket)
-CPU and GPU overclocking is possible and confirmed, using the multiplier on cpu and clock speed on gpu with unlocked bios
-NO SWITCHABLE GRAPHICS, You WILL waste battery when running with the 750m
-410 has about 5hrs of battery life, about 4hrs when used
-510 has about 45mins less, due to bigger screen and higher resolution. SLI model has even less.
-Future model will include switchable graphics, it is possible the the current and future 510/410 be bios flashed to allow it.
-It is possible to purchase a 650m ultrabay graphic card and SLI it with a 750m IF YOU FLASH THE BIOS OF THE gtx650m to a gtx750m custom bios (same gpu, different bios and clock speeds)
-The 24gb SSD config WITH the 1tb HDD IS NOT A HYBRID DRIVE!!! It is a 1tb HDD 5,400 rpm with a 24gb mSATA SSD
-The mSATA port is present even when not taking the model with 24gb SSD, the mSATA is LOCKED at max 24gb, you may not swap the mSATA without voiding the warranty
-It is yet unconfirmed if the unlocked bios will let you upgrade to a bigger mSATA SSD
-HDD can be replaced with standard 2.5'' SSD, but it will void your warranty
-Lenovo canada still offers the 30 refund policy, but not with the free shipping label
-Lenovo canada currently does not offer extended or accidental damage warranty on theses models with the discount.
-You may NOT combine the RFDEXCLUSIVE coupon with another offer such as 10% off when registering to the Lenovo newsletter.

If i left some questions unanswered, please, AMA

Also, if this was usefull in any way, please, "thank" me for the post, as this is my first one. All the infos here, were confirmed by either a lenovo sales rep or technician (even the bios unlocking, however they dont tell you how, it is available online :P)

    • Dell Inspiron 15r Special Edition or Lenovo y500 laptop? Best bang for the buck laptop under 1000?
Definitely a lenovo. I have the 15R special edition and I really wished I got the lenovo, but I needed my laptop ASAP for personal reasons. Had no time to wait for the month long process for it to ship to me whereas dell took less than 5 days

Ordered the y410 despite the fact that i originally wanted the i5, i got the i7 for cheaper cause of the RFD coupon and despite every little things bugging me like the lack of ssd or the fact that upgrading voids the warranty.

I work in a computer shop so i will probably upgrade it anyways and if i have to rma it, will just put back the original parts without breaking any seals.

The other thing that bugs me is the fact that i cant use the integrated graphics when just typing notes or watching a movie so i might find a software to seriously downclock the gpu manually at some times, or hopefully, lenovo will come out with a bios update eventually.

Last thing, comes with the dvd ultrabay thingy, i could care less about optical media, i really wanted sli graphics, a buddy of mine has the y500 with sli 650m and it rips through stuff for a sub 1k laptop. Really wish i could get the sli one but i guess ill have to buy the stupid 229$ addon when it comes out, if it does. Damn lenovo.

Anyways it still seems like a great deal for an amazing pc, so im selling my sony ultrabook (yuck, sony computer!) to my buddy who is tired of carrying his 18.4'' asus rog and wants something small and zippy.

Might edit the post with more info if anything turns up, maybe it will become a sticky, somewhere on the interweb

I was getting the impression from a notebook review owners thread for y410p that there were switchable graphics but not optimus. The lenovo reps don't really seem to know what they are talking about because they seem to have been telling a lot of people that the "anti-glare" screen is matte when it isn't.

I'm hoping it's possible to turn off the nvidia graphics because haswell is supposed to have fantastic battery life
