The opti 990 came with all sorts of issue.
- The wrong video card with half the memory.
- Also, you need a special converter to go to vga/dvi. They send me the split vga cables but one port has a pink coloration which I am assuming is defective. The cable also looked very beat up.
- Broken/missing lock on the side panel. If you keep it upright the panel falls off.
- dust coating on the front fan
Anyways, called in and they will give me a full refund. Was hoping for a replacement but afraid I may run into the same issue again.
I will be using it as a server for plex, 3CX (soft PBX), Maybe 1 or 2 VM (Linux and GNS3), downloads, syslogs. NOt sure if I will do any video editing on it. Was looking at the 3500/5500.
but, according to intel ark, 6 core is actually cheaper, now i feel bad:
X5647 TRAY: $774.00
E5640 TRAY: $774.00 BOX : $777.00
E5645 TRAY: $631.00 BOX : $554.00

How come the E5645 has almost doubled in price from what it was last time? is it because it has 2 CPUs?
Was thinking about picking up another one.
Thanks.
I wish the Optiplex, in particular the i3 SFF ones, were like at least $100 cheaper after the coupons though I feel those are still a bit expensive (just considering hardware specs that somebody at home would care about at any rate). When I kind of changed my mind that I wanted a new small PC last time I missed the sale/inventory ran dry I caved and found an Acer Veriton Thin Client form factor PC with Celeron 887 (which is still Sandy Bridge Dual Core but a bunch lower clock speed), HM70 Express chipset (released in 2013), 4GB RAM, 320GB HDD, SATA 6GB, GBe, Wireless N, Bluetooth 4.0, USB3, HDMI for ~$130. It is a good margin slower than the Optiplex i3 offerings, but it is much smaller, uses much less electricity, has better connectivity and overall newer technology and was like half the cost even after the coupon. I will concede that the Optiplex line is probably overall subjectively better quality than what Acer spouts out though.
The best value in the Optiplex line are the ones that come in the big mini tower chassis but if you're looking for SFF/USFF the value drops significantly with the current offerings, I have a bit of a "thing" for SFF/USFF PCs, I have some extremely cheap and not very powerful Atom based thin clients (and one marvell based box that uses only 5W still in service as a torrent box) around the house doing pretty remarkable stuff on Arch Linux so I am always on the lookout for another tiny box to tinker with that I can leave running all the time without feeling guilty when the hydro bill rolls in. The i3 SFF for more like $200 all-in would have been a no brainer for me.

Is it too much to ask for free shipping too?

Rogido, yes, the 11 and 09 refer to when the model was launched, but NOT to when the unit was produced. So the P2412H is a newer model design than the P2412H, but they units themselves will likely be the same physical age.

I've posted all the available stock this morning, and added a lot of Hot Deal discounts, that should be all the changes for today.
The Second Chance Sale uses the same coupon code, 40BTS14, and is valid on all items storewide until Sunday Sept. 14th.

The shipping might kill this one for me.
Extremely nice laptops, built like a tank. I got one with the HD+ display (1600x900), not the best display by today's standards (not IPS, not at least 1080p) but it's matte which seems difficult to find and other than the usual viewing angle downsides it is sharp and bright. The HDD in it, while obviously not ideal being a platter drive, is at least a pretty decent model being the Western Digital Scorpio Black and the laptop is equipped with a free fall sensor which is nice. The integrated webcam is not stunning by any means, but it is surprisingly decent for something I expected to be garbage. It does do 1080p and gives you a pretty reasonable image in low light. I also appreciate the trackpoint in the middle of the keyboard - while it is not as good as the classic thinkpad nub it is certainly a welcome thing to have compared to the touchpad (which is also not bad either, it does multi touch gestures etc.). The keyboard itself feels good to type on, the keys are spaced well and have a good travel and there is no flex in the laptop - other than the bottom panel which is plastic with a steel plate underneath the rest of it is all magnesium/steel - like I said, it just gives you the impression of being built to last.
If anybody has any specific questions about the latitudes dellrefurbished is selling I would be happy to try to answer them based on what I've received. I just wanted to post that I am pretty happy with our purchase and my wife actually went out of her way to say she likes her new laptop - normally she is pretty indifferent about these things. I am actually a little bit jealous of her new old laptop myself after having spent a few hours with it last night setting it up (I blew away the OS and installed 8.1 Update 1 fresh, I am one of the few rational people that actually thinks Windows 8.1 is an overall improvement over 7 but let's not get into that again). Alas, I don't really need another laptop and when I feel that I should upgrade my office will purchase one for me (we use Dell as well, I am going to push for a Latitude next time I ask for a new one - after playing with the latitude it made this Vostro seem utterly inferior).
Bonus Tips:
One thing to be sure to check when you receive yours is to make sure the SATA mode in the BIOS is set to AHCI, mine was set to ATA by default which is not optimal. You may want to switch the boot mode to UEFI as well prior to reinstalling any OS, I forgot to do so... but these laptops do support it, well at least after updating the BIOS. Mine shipped out with A05 where A21 was the newest release so there have been a lot of fixes and likely most IT departments will not bother to update these things so expect yours to be fairly out of date.
One last thing to be aware of is that you can reasonably expect the battery to be well worn and you will not get anywhere close to the capacity of a new laptop. So if you need to use it away from power for extended periods of time you should plan ahead to add the cost of a new battery to your purchase price budget.

IMO it's hard to beat the value that dellrefurbished is offering on promos for the Latitudes. If you're okay with being a generation behind on the CPU compared to most other refurbs (and we all know how little has actually changed performance wise since Sandy Bridge) you get a much more robust machine for less money than comparable refurbs elsewhere... I personally was always wary of the various asus refurbs which end up costing more, you get slightly newer parts in them, but I have no doubt that they are not in the same league at all in terms of quality.
I'm looking forward to the E6420, i7-2620M, 1600x900 HD+ LED, 8GB RAM that I ordered for my wife. Since I don't have it in my hands yet, can anybody who ordered a Latitude comment on the physical condition they received theirs in particularly if they had to go with a "B" condition model? What about battery condition? I have to admit that some of the stories of people receiving stuff that was DOA, or completely missing things like an installed OS got me a bit worried about the actual refurbishment process that Dell puts their lease returns through but perhaps things just went sideways while in storage somehow (or user error?). On the flipside you've got the other people who receive far more than they thought they bought so it appears to go both ways.
Sorry Jay been out of the office. Check your PM. Funny you said that though, as I actually had to clean out my mailbox during this sale. I asked RFD if there were any plans to allow verified reps a larger capacity, I think they may look at it sometime.
