    • Does anyone have any experience with how Apple handles people who bought in the last week or so? My parents bought my sister a Mac for school about 9 days ago (still within return period). She could probably use (or sell) the headphones.

I guess technically we could do a return and buy but she's already spent time getting the laptop setup. I guess that's her call.

Drop by the store, they will likely just do an adjustment on the receipt and give you the beats.

    • Just confirmed via chat with a specialist:

"as you long as you purchased a new MacBook Pro in the past 2 weeks you should qualify"

    • Did Apple start charging for the 'better' headphones this year? A friend of mine received a free Beats3 Solo Wireless a year ago with the purchase of a Mac laptop.
      Apple's charging $150.00 + TAX now.

      Edit: Never mind, see below.

Nope they just gonna ask for your student ID card. That's how I remember when I got mines last year

Lucky sister. Best I got was a notebook and binder. Maybe even a pencil case if my parents were feeling like splurging.

Edit - plz no downvotes guys. Damn, mans can’t even take a joke in here.

      How did you contact Apple?

I just called Apple. I've had my iPad Pro for about 2 weeks and it's still eligible for a return. They said if I want the education discount I need to return my iPad and reorder again.

    • I called in and submitted both my iMac order and my MacBook order for this promotion, although both were received before the promotion began.

They said my iMac is eligible. I received that order early July, just over a week ago.
They said my MacBook is ineligible. I received that order mid-June, over three weeks ago.

So based on the timing, that makes sense.

    • Looks like they pulled the back to school promo for iPhone purchases. Instead they give you the more expensive Beats on-ear headphones for free with the Mac.

    • I've been waiting patiently for this deal, I had just checked last night to see if it was up yet. I'm in for an iPad Pro 10.5" with some beats wireless buds :) oh and an apple pencil.

If you order online, there is no verification. Did this last year for my iMac, went through like the Humber College site and did it no problem. Mac and Beats showed up a few days later

I've always just ordered from home. I have never been asked for verification this way. I'm told the only time they verify is if you buy in the physical store.

    • I went to the store with my sister. Absolutely no hassle in getting the free beats (she wanted the PowerBeats 3).

Just recounting in case it helps anyone:

      - Purchased 12" MacBook 9 days ago
      - Met by the greeter person, explained we wanted the promotion. He said no problem and got someone.
      - Person asked to see the receipt. They did a virtual return.
      - Asked for my sisters student ID # and expiry. Technically didn't ask for the card or proof... but she pulled it out to get the expiry.

No problems at all, no hesitations, no delays.

    • was thinking of getting my first ever ipad with the 10.5 inch. Just curious, did previous back to school sales include discounts on the price or was it always just some free headphones?

    • Did anyone have any luck going to the store and negotiating to get a pencil instead of the beats with the ipad pro? The genius I talked to seemed reluctant to do it but I got the feeling he could if he wanted to.

I'm wondering this as well. I have no use for another pair of headphones. I'd probably have more use for the Apple Pencil for taking notes

I have purchased two macbooks in my university days. The first one came with a free ipod touch. The second one came with a $100 app store gift card. I'm guessing the headphones are worth more. I don't recall there ever being a price discount other than the standard few bucks off for buying from the educational store.
