This deal has expired! This deal has expired!

August 5 Update: These have been restocked online if you're having problems finding them in store!

Originally published July 26: If you're in need of an affordable laptop or a multifunction printer We've spotted some good deals over at Walmart.ca. They also appear in the current Walmart flye. Both qualify for free shipping if you are ordering online. Here are the details:

This is a great price for a brand new laptop. The Celeron B820 processor is based on Sandy Bridge architecture and should be fast enough for everyday productivity use. Besides refurbished goods, your selection at the sub $300 price point is pretty narrow, and this is competitive option. Both items could be nice pickups if you're doing early back to school shopping!

I could be wrong, but I don't think we saw that in 2011. The closest thing from Walmart was an Acer AMD E-Series laptop at $288.

    • Good that it has HDMI. Could make a good OTA PVR with a USB Tuner if it has the horsepower for it.

    • Thanks OP. Ordered the laptop. IMO, this is awesome if you do not want to wait another 5 months and rush thru the crowd or queue up early morning for Boxing Day sale. I did get intel-based Toshiba laptop with similar configuration from US about 3 months ago. Never saw this price tag on intel-based laptops in Canada though (except on Boxind Day).

Edit: Remember, you qualify for Windows 8 Pro upgrade for $14.99 when you buy any qualifying laptop* (* http://goo.gl/eHAeH) between June 2, 2012 and January 31, 2013. I know there aren't good reviews out yet for the new OS in beta version, but I am hoping good UI by the final release date.

    • How does this laptop compared to the $300 refurbished Lenovo with core i3 and hackintosh possibility that are on sale a few times.

Were you able to find out what the webcam was like...google didn't show much other than the walmart specs which leave it out....a similar model had a 0.3MP listed? Is this decent enough for skype...looking to give sound advice to my sister on getting this one.....Thanks. And thanks OP

Where at? I just picked 2 up here in Ottawa - the tag on display said $348, but the sticker on the actual box had it at @298.

In July2011, WM had a Toshiba (or maybe Acer) that went on clearance for $298 with an AMD P340 cpu. But this new deal, the B820 is over 20% faster on passmark than that cpu. That was a clearance deal while this is a sale deal. I recall bc I got one for a friend! So a similar price point has come up, but this new deal is way better compared to the one from last year.

A B820 is a crippled I3. It's based also on the Sandy Bridge architecture. But since the refurbished Lenovo seemed to come also with a 1yr warranty, I would have to say the Lenovo is a better deal. Though was the Lenovo selling for $298 or $348, I forget.

Usually for $300, you get a AMD C or E series based cpu. So if you're getting an Intel cpu for the same price, I guess this makes it at least a decent to hot deal.

I was looking online, but just scored one from Stockyards Walmart in TO. They had plenty left in a locked cabinet across from all the displayed laptops. This will make a good "mom machine" - her first laptop. Thanks OP!

    • I picked up this laptop today at wal mart and while it is impressive in terms of styling and bright screen/big size, the keyboard is the biggest drawback. For one, its a bilingual keyboard, so if that's not a bigge for you then shouldn't be an issue - it's just a really messy and confusing keyboard. Secondly, the left hand shift key is so tiny you keep hitting the / key that is right beside it. The keys are really mashed up clsed together and not spaced out which makes it really easy to screw up when typing.

I am returning this guy for sure because the keyboard is driving me crazy. And no, they did not have a model on display I could try out and look at.

Also, there is no on board volume control, you have to do it with the FN preset.

But every other model on display probably had a bilingual keyboard. xP

No worries. After a few years, you'll get used to the suckiness.

    • new , big (9.5 MB) BIOS update came out for it July 17. in typical Acer fashion though there is no info on what it adds or fixes...

      http://support.acer.com/ca/en/produc...x?modelId=4097

and if you want it to run even faster get yourself a legit windows 7 ISO. format the hdd and reinstall fresh os using licence key on your computer . without Acer bloat ware it should run nicely. btw - I suggest this for all new PC's.

    • ok, just grabbed one from the kitchener, fairview rd. location and it seems pretty good. I can't really tell any difference between it and the dell one bought from bestbuy in april which is an i5 that i got for 400 bucks due to prices error in their flyer.

    • got one. it's 4gb ram, not 3gb as it say on the box.

i am a developer, usually run 1 Linux-database vm in the background.

i upgrade from a dell 6400(t2400\3gb). i didn't feel slow on this old guy at all, but it can't playback HD video, and CPU fan sometimes spin like crazy. never think of upgrade until i saw this deal.

the Acer looks MUCH better, runs cool and quiet, handle everything fine, and of course can play 1080p hd video smoothly. speed wise, i didn't feel dramatic improvement except running my vm. the Acer bios enable VT-x, which makes my virtualbox runs way better. (my old Intel t2400 also support VT-x, but dell disable it in bios!!!!)

why it should be a 'mom's laptop'? if you don't play game, i bet you can't tell the diff from i3/i5.

      overall, a good buy.

    • those who are positive on their review, have you tried using the french keyboard on it? It is such a hassle.

    • Hey, you're right, it's 4GB RAM installed even though it says 3GB on the sticker on the laptop. It is indeed a very good looking unit, not too heavy either, battery life isn't bad either, I was browsing the web and installing updates and other programs after a full charge and it still had more than half of battery left after 2 hours. I noticed that the webcam vastly improved in quality after I installed the available update. And the multilingual keyboard is not that much of a hassle, you get used to it pretty fast, not a big deal.

The build quality of this unit I would say is better than the Dell I5 that I bought in march from bestbuy, the Dell has much better specs than this one, as usb3.0, bluetooth, etc., but everyday computing you really don't see much of a difference.

Nice catch - I was wondering what was with the odd amount of RAM. Didn't pay particular attention when I was removing the bloat, but don't you find the CPU far too slow for running your vm? Found it was bogged down just doing updates.

Overall it's a nice unit for the price - looks better than the lenovo G~ laptop we picked up some time back.

I can't say I've used the french keyboard on it (or the keyboard itself all too much), so can't really chime in on that.

    • I've been using this laptop for most of the day and I can't seem to find any faults, it seems like a well built unit. Plays 1080p video flawlessly, most other applications work fine as well, screen is nice and bright. I would say this is a hot deal at this price. If you know how to type, it doesn't take long to get used to the left shift key, which is a little bit further down.
