Exactly. Now, I'm waiting for the 512GB models to come down in price! After all, the prophecy states that we must replace all of our HDDs with SSDs at some point in the future.
I'll wait for $200 or less. Its gunna happen. This was not a price error. Give it a week and you'll see it there again.
Deal's basically dead now.
I have a AMD X6 O'C to 3.5Ghz for my main system.
But, yes I wanted to test if an SSD would make up for the single core Pentium 2.8Ghz HT processor -->Not worth it. (SSD was actually a gift for my son, his notebook.)
Actually, I've reinstalled Windows on it on the hard disk and it is okay for a general user for email, internet, word/excel. I would not put any money into it to extend its life.
wow...
1) Wouldn't those old beasts need their OS upgraded to Win7 to gain full SSD trim support?
2) And likley RAM upgrade to min. 2 GB.
3) I put Win7 on a 90GB SSD into a P4 2.8GHz HT computer with 2GB Ram. It was a little faster, but nothing eathshattering. (I personally thought a re-install of the WinXP OS would of gotten the same type of performance gain. I did notice the CPU being MAXed out a lot more frequently.)
4) SSD only is a really dangerous configuration. I would ensure, the SSD was imaged on a weekly/monthly basis - in case of failure. SSDs either work or don't work - no warnings. (So supporting an extended family on SSD is going to be interesting.)
Sometimes, it is just best to retire old clunkers.
Sequential Read 185 MB/s
Sequential Write 90 MB/s

The Read speeds on the Vertex is like a turtle =P
that's an older ssd model which is much slower!

Update: Manager ended up calling me on Saturday. He left a message saying that they've been working out the kinks with the web order system. He apologized and offered the price beat on this SSD as well as a 3570K I had also submitted a couple days ago. They price beat on the larger price difference on the SSD that existed when I placed the order. I went in, picked up both items with no problems. I'm very satisfied with ME. Ended up paying about $195 for this SSD all in, pretty awesome. Good job Edmonton south!
Well, my OCZ Vertex 3 was $70 AR for 120gb; that equals 58 cents per gigabyte.
Missed out too. Was waiting for a PM reply from NCIX and by time they declined it, it was OOS at TD.
I've had SSD since oct 2009. Not secured to anything even though I bought an adapter for desktop (not installed yet :P). I currently have 2 SSD in desktop not secured to anything.
As others have said, unless your moving desktop around every couple days or when you do move it around your shaking it violently etc, it won't be a problem.
i think 2 of my HDDs died on me, the BIOS won't autodetect them any more, i didn't use any bay mounts
As long as you are not moving or transporting your case regularly, your SSD should be just fine.
It's not an issue unless you move your computer around a lot. Regular spindle drives move around and vibrate so they should be secured. The SSDs will be fine they way they are.
I use velcro
So, $0.65/Gb * 256Gb = $166
Overcharge for this drive = $199 - $166 = $33 or 16.5% surcharge over best expectations?
It will be interesting is this particular drive reduces to $166 for those who are still waiting ...

The 000F firmware update from 04/11/2012 may have resolved this issue:
"Improved throughput stability under extremely heavy workloads."
Benchmark is just benchmark. I even raided 2 intel 520 128gb but no difference either.
i think this is great deal. m4 is known for reliablity and if you really want to buy ssd based on sandforce, make sure it is from intel.
Thanks for link.
However, first two tiers are sandforce drives. :P ok they are faster, but looking at reviews you're gambling at whether they even work (ok, with the dozen or so firmware revisions they probably work better now, but prices are still way above M4).
He leaves out Plextor M3, which is similar to M4, but has toggle nand. Plextor even released a Pro version in past month, which is even faster (more expensive).
I believe M4 better at as-ssd benchmark than sandforce drives (incompressible data).
