Tiger Direct
TigerDirect: Asus 15.6" Laptop w/i7-2670QM, 6GB RAM, 500GB HD, GT540, 1920x1080 $849.99 + Free Ship
This deal has expired!
We've spotted a good deal over at TigerDirect.ca on a nicely equipped 15.6" Asus laptop. Right now, you can get an ASUS N53SV-EH72 15.6" Laptop with an Intel Core i7-2670QM quad core processor, 15.6" 1920x1080 display, and GeForce GT 540 1GB for $849.99 with free shipping when you use coupon code NXY57844. Here's a closer look at the hardware:
- Intel Core i7-2670QM 2.2GHz Processor
- 6GB DDR3 RAM
- 500 GB HD
- Windows 7 Home Premium
- 1GB Nvidia GeForce GT 540M
- 15.6" 1920x1080 Display
- DVDRW
- 1xUSB 3.0 port
- Bluetooth
- Wireless B/G/N
- 6-cell battery
- 6.4lbs
This is an upgraded version of a deal we saw a few weeks ago (a $799.99 version of this laptop with an i7-2630QM processor and 4GB RAM). You also get free shipping here, so the additional $50 is justified.
The big selling point here is the 1920x1080 display. You will be able to find similarly equipped laptops near this price from a CPU/RAM/HD/Graphics standpoint, but very few with a high resolution screen.
The offer is listed as good through March 28, but we wouldn't be surprised if it sells out before then.

That upgraded screen and better graphics card would sure be nice. Decision time...if you like someone....marry NOW.
Some people just wait and wait...thinking next year model will be better...
The GT 630m does perform a little better than the GT 540m, but is not worth an extra $150+ for it.
Is it a glossy screen? How is the horizontal viewing angle. Do colours look washed out?
was gonna wait for the G53SX-NH71 with the gtx560 to take a minor price drop but still could not justify the 400$ difference
thanks op you da man
Had this been $750 I would have said very, very, hot. But I don't think the increased screen res and a vid chip that is $15 more in lots then the G525 makes it worth the $220 jump.
Looking at where the market is going in the next 30-60 days, it gets down to what premium you attach to the Asus name vs Dell, as you are paying for that diff right now, plus the optics of where the market was 30 days ago (which was very overpriced).
I know some may disagree, but that is my general read of things.
The Asus is a good deal for a gaming machine, the Dell is an awesome deal for everything else.
But I did skim over the faster drive and warranty. I am still not thinking they justify the diff. I have never known anyone to take advantage of a warranty in late stages - its usually an incredible pain in the ***, and by then tech has moved so much that usually you just say "What the frack" and go buy something current anyways. A friend in a diff manufacturer tells me that less then 5% of the warranty claims they get are for units in the last 40% of warranty life. And that makes sense to me as a 2 yr old machine is usually 3-4 generations out of date, if not more.
The diff to a manny on a 500 gb drive from 5400 rpm to 7200 rpm, is about $5/unit, in 1000 unit lots, for some perspective on the cost benefit of the better drive.
I am not slamming this deal at all (just in case someone thinks I am). I am just thinking that when you pull apart a lot of these recent deals it gets very "trying" to sort out the real value. Its often not what one thinks. But I do agree that for a certain need, given the outrageous pricing up to recently, it and we are moving in the right direction, other then the really overblown pricing on ultranotes.
Honestly, the best laptop I've ever had. The keyboard takes a little bit of time to get used to but I put a silicon protector ontop of it and it types better than my mechanical keyboard. The buttons just have an amazing feeling to them.
The screen is amazing, I love to multitask and constantly alt-tabbing is so annoying.
The sound is out of this world, the speakers are AMAZING, so crisp and SO LOUD.
The track pad is nice, although I use an external mouse, the buttons feel good and the track pad is very sensitive (i like that, some might not but you can change the settings for that).
One downside, compared to other laptops that I've tried, the number pad is a little small, but for me, I'd rather have a small one than none at all.. Just something to keep in mind.
The battery life is decent, I get around 4 hours or more with wifi on.
Hopefully when I add in my SSD I'll be able to get around 5.
Anyways, thats just a small review on my laptop (Note: It is the i5 version with 640gb HDD, everything else is the same)

I have an older 17" Dell Inspiron that has a ridiculously high 1920 x 1200 res screen, which is impractical... I've never ever used it in its native resolution.
Everyone has their opinions on laptop quality based on anecdotes, but the only scientific study I've seen on their reliability is the Squaretrade one.
Although it's 3 years old now, it says Asus is near the top of the heap, 15.6% failures after 3 years vs. 18.3% for Dell. That puts Dell right in the middle of the pack, along with Apple. (Despite what Apple fanboys are often claiming.)
I've got an Asus, and been happy with it, although I'm not brand loyal: I've found their tech support a nightmare of undertrained people, saying they'll call back and then not doing so, bizarre!
Still, I'd buy an Asus again, cuz I think they're solid machines. I would like to see Squaretrade or someone do a new big study though.
