Sony Reader Wi -Fi eReader $94.99 w/Coupon
This deal has expired! This deal has expired!

There's been a recent upswing of eReader deals, and that trend continues with an offer from Sony. Shop online at the Sony Store and you can find the Sony Reader Wi-Fi priced at $94.99 when you use coupon code SHAREMAY2012. You also get a Harry Potter and the Philisopher's Stone as a free eBook. The Reader Wi-Fi is available in 3 colours:

The Reader Wi-Fi is a 6" reader with an E Ink Pearl touchscreen display, 600x800 resolution, 2GB of internal storage, microSD expandability, and Wi-Fi connectivity. Outside of the hardware, the WiFi reader has a couple of nice perks like dual-touch pinch to zoom, handwritten note taking, and audio playback ability. At $94.99, it's an option worth considering if you've been holding out for a good eBook reader deal! You might consider it if you haven't picked up a Mother's Day gift, too.

Shipping is free.

    • Amazon will reportedly release a Kindle with a color display this summer ( http://www.geek.com/articles/gadgets...ndle-20120221/ ). Personally, I'd prefer to wait and see if Sony updates their product or if the price will drop on greyscale ereaders.
Since when has Sony ever based their prices on anything other than their own inflated sense of self-worth?

    • Can anybody get the Harry potter ebook once you register the device with Sony or does BB have a special code for that?

    • I'll say it again (coming from someone who has used many eBook readers through the years):

The Nook Touch is hands-down the best reader out right now, in my opinion. IF you have an Amerifriend or plan to go the USA any time soon, get that. It's cheaper and far superior in its ergonomics and controls.

Plus the new one with the Glowlight is soooo cool.

I doubt it will have the same price point range of $90 - $120 that we are seeing for the greyscale devices now...I would guestimate it will be around the $150 to $220 mark. But hey - you never know. Reviews of the colour e-reader screen (since it was unveiled in 2010) show it is currently not as sharp and colorful as LCD, where the colors themselves look muted, as though you were looking at a faded color photograph. Thats understandable since it is a different technology...if you want sharp, vivid colour, a tablet type technology is the way to go.

It also helps that Microsoft is investing $300 million into the Nook business in their partnership with Barnes & Noble

With the code, the all-in price with free shipping comes to $107 .34. Nice!

Interesting. I would probably buy one even though it would be of little benefit to me. All I read is novels so it's not like colour would really make a difference. I guess the cover art would look nice though.

I disagree. The Nook has the poorest form factor with a wide, rounded bezel. I'd take the Kobo, Kindle, Sony form over the Nook any day, but that integrated Glowlight technology is worth waiting for on either of the other models if B&N isn't prepared to slim down their e-ink reader. I am not impressed that Sony hasn't updated their firmware on the PRST to touch (versus swipe) page turns because their page turn buttons are only suitable for lefties. Meanwhile a color e-ink reader doesn't interest me at all.

    • Got to say the best deal for this e-book reader was when it was free with my sony mbna mastercard. Haven't used it though as a tablet with multifunction and kobo kinda beats it.

    • This Sony PRS-T1 reader is superior to the rest. Just hold one in your hand and you will feel the quality and sophisticated design compared to the rest. It has physical buttons and comes with a stylus; runs on Android, so you get a some extra nice features.

Sony's also supports EPUB, so you can rent ebooks from the library through your reader!

    • I got this Sony free with my Sony card, it's a good reader. I find the wifi is a bit spotty compared to my Playbook but otherwise the quality is good, screen is crystal clear. Recommend for sure.

    • Woah! I just came back form the states and the Best Buy in Amherst was selling those for $79.99 as clearance. I was going to pick one up but it was sold out. Picked up the Nook Touch instead for the same price. Good ereader I must say.

I couldn't find one. I just saw that online also has free engraving which is a nice touch if this is a gift.

Love the Nook Touch, most comfortable e-reader to hold for prolonged periods of time (I've tried every gen of Kindle, the DX, Kobo and Sony). Looks great too.

    • Thanks op and r3tract for the coupon. picked one up after deciding on it between the kobo touch and kindle. public library usage was the selling point for me.

    • I have gone through a couple of generations of the Sony reader (600 and 650), and the addition of Wifi is a nice touch. One thing I do like about the Sony system is that it is better integrated with Adobe's DRM system than the Kobo units are. The Kobo units require almost a separate system to pull in non-Kobo material while the Sony system has it all integrated nicely in their desktop app.

    • I received this exact same reader free when I applied for my MBNA Sony Card (also earned $60 for signing up). I sold the ereader on Kijiji for $130 I now have enough pointsoin the card for a free Sony clock/radio. Once that arrives, I will cancel the card.

It'll be targeted at people who read comics and magazines, still useless as an actual display besides that thanks to that up to a second refresh rate. Because of this though they can't make it excessively more expensive, definitely not over $150, because there will be $90 black and white tablets that cover most people's needs. It also needs to be cheaper than the Kindle Fire, probably significantly so.

Personally I hoped that there would be a successor to Pearl, but it doesn't look like it's coming this year. A 100ms or less refresh rate is what e-ink really needs.
