Shoppers Drug Mart: Acer Aspire 10" Netbook $240 or $90 w/75k Optimum Points Redemption (April 17)

Shoppers Drug Mart: Acer Aspire 10
This deal has expired! This deal has expired!
This weekend, Shopper's Drug Mart kicks off a hot deal on an Acer Aspire One Netbook. Starting on April 17 (Saturday), an Acer Aspire One netbook with 10.1" LCD, 1GB RAM and 160GB hard drive will be $239.99. Those are the only specifications listed in the store flyer (page 2), but we would surmise that it's a first generation Atom processor and Windows XP underneath the hood.

The price by itself is pretty good, but if you are have a lot of Shoppers Optimum Points, the deal can get substantially better. If you redeem 75,000 points, you can get the netbook for $89.99. Additionally, on Saturday April 17th you will earn 20x the points on purchases over $50, so you will recover a lot of points on whatever portion of the netbook price you end up paying out of pocket.

Many people will be after this deal, so your best bet is to shop early and call first to confirm stock. For some community opinions on how to best spend your points here, check the original thread about this offer in our hot deals forum.

    • Sorry - it's early and I haven't had my coffe yet ..... so SDM will have this for $239.99+ tx this week even if I don't have any SDM points to use? Off hand do you know the model number or where I could find details on this?

Could pull the trigger on this if this is the case. Wifie wants a netbook and I've held off on a printer and a tv deal this week. Visa card is lookin' for use!

      Thanks in advance!

I assume is Atom n270? If so Best buy have it at $279, so I suppose that's $40 off and perhaps a pm opportunity?

I say its a hot deal if anyone is looking for an laptop but I rather spend my point else where or on bonus redemption day

    • So is this a good way to start on the Optium points bandwagon with the 20x points on Sat and the good price already or would it be better to wait for a good deal with one of these "bonus points" days?

Also does anybody know if this has support for a minni pci-e slot to put in an atsc tuner since I don't think the n270's would be able to handle the horsepower needed for a usb one?

    • How many points to get for 20X?
      thanks
You get 48,000 pts on a $240 purchase.

      40K pts is worth:
$75 on a normal redemption day
      $100 on Bonus Redemption Day

The 20X pts make this is great deal.

So yes, this is a good time to start collecting Optimum pts if you need a netbook and at this sale price.

      Thanks for the fyi!

I have an Eee 900ha but it does't have a mini pci-e slot nor, from what I read online can handle an atsc usb adapter, and I'm looking to move elsewhere to get more OTA channels from Buffalo/Toronto from the 3-5 I get now so I certainly do need it as a tool to know where to move once we get a model number to see if it's got a mini pci-e slot.

Hmmm, so I have 40,000 points. If I use them, I can get this for $165 and then get 48,000 points (which works out to another $75) to cash in again later. Is that correct?

Do most Shoppers carry these or is it hit and miss?

      Thanks by the way OP.

    • This deal is amazing! I got one from the last one. It is an AAO d250 most likely with an n270. It came out to $186 after taxes with a starting price of $299.99.

Updated: It isn't correct (was rushing out the door), you get points back but not instantly for the netbook.

Remember tax is before the use of SDM points.
(@$90 I would get this netbook in an instant, but no more points left for me...)

Instock @ most places. Usually the places that have electronics and get it at the 24h SDM at midnight if you really want this!

So, if redeem $150, we still need to pay full tax for 240$
      $240 X 1.13 - 150 = $121.2 before get 40k pnts.

Can someone clarify that if you redeem any of your SDM points towards a purchase, then you aren't eligible for any bonus points or coupons. I had that happen to me where I redeemed some points for an electronics purchase with a deal being in effect where purchases over $50 provided a bonus $10 GC.

The cashier wouldn't give me the GC since optimum points were used for the purchase. The balance of the purchase was still over $50 after the points were used.

I'm afraid that if I were to purchase a netbook using points, then the cashier will say, I won't be given 20x the points on either the initial amount $239 or even the balance amount depending on how many points I choose to use for redemption.

      NO!

The max amount of points anyone can use for a single transaction is 75,000 points. That all .

Thanks for the info Triad and thanks again to the op. Even with the 40,000 Optimum Points, this looks great to me given that you get back the points that you spend.

It's been said many times in other posts, you can't redeem points for GCs but I wonder if you buy $300 of SDM cards , will one get 20x bonus points on buying SDM GC?? They still give optimum points for buying SDM GC cards.

    • Shoppers Drug Mart has the Acer Aspire One Netbook 10.1 inch LCD screen, 1GB RAM 160GB Hard Drive for $239.99 this coming week, starting April 17.

If using the maximum amount of points, 75,000 points, you get $150 off, so you will be paying only $89.99.

If using 40,000 points, you get $75 off, so it is $164.99.

If using 30,000 points, you get $55 off, so it is $184.99.

Also, it is 20X the points on Saturday, April 17, for purchases over $50.

So if you have 40K points, this seems like a good idea? But why would one spend $240 to get the points.... lol, unless you really really needed something from shoppers.... what am I missing here? I would like to get this for the father in law? thx
