Sapphire HD 4870 512MB Video Card $269.99 @ eSNG.ca until 9PM July 7

July 7 Update: It looks like this offer has been extended, it's now valid until 9PM today (July 7).

eSNG.ca has trotted out another very exciting, limited time offer. Until 9PM on July 5 7, you can purchase a Sapphire HD Radeon 4870 512MB PCI-E Video Card for $269.99. The 4870, newly released by ATI, puts up a good fight with the NVIDIA GTX 260 (check out some benchmarks at Tweaktown and Guru3D for example) but with the pricing here, costs about $100 less.

$269.99 is the lowest price we've seen for this a 4870 so far, and there is no rebate involved. Comparing prices at PriceCanada.com reveals that other vendors have 4870 cards for $295 to over $350, and there are some rebates at the lower end of that spectrum.

  It's just a 2GB USB Key that they toss in as a gimmick. It has nothing to do with the video card.

- And to add.. at the rate prices are dropping on the 4850s and 4870s, I think I will wait until the end of the summer to upgrade from 8800 GT. I mean the 4870 launched a week ago, and it's already 10% below US MSRP.

  Also forgot to mention, sapphire should come with a full version of 3dmark2006, not that useful, but its atleast something unlike those crap games that usually gets thrown in.

  Ya, try and quad crossfire/sli just is not there yet... just look at how much you have to pay for a motherboard that only does 16x16x4x4x
  
  Heck even 2 card SLI and Crossfire are still not there yet. They are improving, this generation has been the most scalable.

  Yeah.. that's for two cards and I know scaling is nearly 100%. What I am saying is now, scaling for 3 and 4 cards is NEGATIVE. So until it is fixed (even if the fix is only creating 3 and 4 card profiles in the drivers) there is no point in doing 3 or 4 card Crossfire.

  Erg... Thanks for the heads up. Looks like 4870s in CF might be the way to go. CrossFireX needs to mature, I suppose.
  
  I think I need to bump up the voltage, fans and then do some OCing on my 4850s before I decide to jump on over to the 4870s. As it stands right now, clock-for-clock, GDDR5 seems to only give a ~6% performance gain, or so it seems based on what people have been achieving over at XS. But the real beauty should be in the overclockability of GDDR5.

  No, you do not need a 1000W PSU. Those are 'certified' PSUs for Crossfire. IE: If you want to run two of them and be guaranteed to have it working.

  Make sure you set up some fan speed profiles manually for CCC as the cards fans are coming set at 20-23% and run unnecessarily hot. (35% seems quiet and cool 2me: 55c - 77c load).
  Sapphire's not my fav but that's quite a deal.
