If you've been waiting for a low price point to pick up an iPhone, Rogers and Fido might have what you're looking for. With a 3-year agreement and a data plan, you can get "refreshed" or "encore" 3G iPhones at considerable discounts (8GB models for $49.00, and 16GB models for $99.00).

What do refreshed or encore mean you ask? Essentially, these are unused or very lightly used iPhones that have been returned. Fido offers "refreshed" iPhones, which are phones that have been returned within 15 days from the date of activation. Rogers offers "encore" phones, which are phones returned within a 30 day warranty period. In both cases, the phones are either unused or used lightly and must still pass rigorous final Quality Assurance testing before their sale.

    • I just wish I could get a decent price on a refurb 8gb without a data plan sicne the 16gb price seems to be an error.

      I just logged into my Rogers account and it says I can upgrade to a 16gb iPhone for $329 vs $329 for an 8gb phone, both on a 3 year contract renewal.

      call and ask. they will probably slap on another $50 since your plan is under $30. i dont even know their data plan policies anymore. someone in the other thread told me u have to have data plan for those iphone pricing now, but the fido rep i got in touch with told me i dont need to, as long as 3 year contract.

      They may slap on even more than $50. I've been with Rogers for years and, to get a new 16gb phone without a data plan on a 3 year contract, they want $329 up front for a new iPhone plus taxes A refreshed unit might be $329 less $75 or $100? Not really sure.

      I bought mine in August over the phone from Rogers and they didn't require a data plan.

      I ended up adding the 6GB/$30 plan later, but it definitely wasn't required.

      The new 16gb is out and the old 16gb has been discontinued. The 8gb will still be available but at a reduced price and Rogers/Fido want to clear out old inventory.

      Buyers that don't want a data plan could also wait untuil the prices drop in the re-sale market. I'm seeing plenty of 8gb phones for sale in RFD and CL at reduced prices. Still to high for my budget though.

Sounds like a scammy sales guy trying to sell me one thing and then the bill shows up showing another. Long story short, seems like data plan is required.

      Also, phone sales does not have access to the refurbed models.

      Nope, he said he could sell it to me at 3 yr contract pricing (but doesn't have the refurbed one). He would read me some sort of disclaimer that I am responsible for any costs associated with accessing data. I would do this if I knew the CSRs would go through and give me the data block...

      They can block data. I have had it set up for my phone (not an Iphone). It is tied to the account, regardless of what phone you use.
