Anyone have any suggestions as to whether Tomato or DD-WRT is a better choice to throw on this thing?
i have one of this router and it's been on for a year and doesnt need to be reset on stock firmware. It's super stable.
I picked up another one the other day for my gf's place and put DD-WRT on it.. its very unstable. Wi-fi cuts in and out every now and then. I have yet to try tomato, but i have a feeling tomato would be a better choice.

Tomato is a small, lean and simple replacement firmware for Linksys' WRT54G/GL/GS, Buffalo WHR-G54S/WHR-HP-G54 and other Broadcom-based routers. It features a new easy to use GUI, a new bandwidth usage monitor, more advanced QOS and access restrictions, enables new wireless features such as WDS and wireless client modes, raises the limits on maximum connections for P2P, allows you to run your custom scripts or telnet/ssh in and do all sorts of things like re-program the SES/AOSS button, adds wireless site survey to see your wifi neighbors, and more.

DD-WRT:
DD-WRT is a Linux based alternative OpenSource firmware suitable for a great variety of WLAN routers and embedded systems. The main emphasis lies on providing the easiest possible handling while at the same time supporting a great number of functionalities within the framework of the respective hardware platform used.

This is a great, great router. Mine is regularly up for months and months at a time without a single problem, only needing a reboot when I update the firmware. Those of you with data caps will appreciate the sweet bandwidth monitoring under Tomato (I'd recommend Toastman's builds), as well as easy setup for noobs, tons of customisability for the more nerdly types.
time to replace the old GL
Recently got a Engenius 9850! Doh! This is a solid deal...still tempted to buy as a gift or just to mess around
Having said this, when I have people with G-only cell phones visiting and they're connected to my wi-fi, my N-capable devices still transfer at N speeds.
It'll replace my cheapo Rosewill N router I bought a few years back. It's worked pretty well considering I think it was less than $30. I just seem to get inconsistencies pretty frequently and a weaker signal than I'd like in some areas. People seem to think this one is good, so I'll try it out.
