Microsoft Technology Guarantee: Buy Office 2007 Now, Free Upgrade to Office 2010 Later

If you're on the verge of buying an Office 2007 product but you're on the fence because of Microsoft Office 2010 being around the corner, you can sleep easy. Microsoft has decreed that when you buy and activate an Office 2007 product between now and September 5, 2010, you will be able to download the corresponding Office 2010 product once it becomes available at no additional charge.     • I don't see why Ultimate Steal deal wouldn't work. It's sold directly from Microsoft after all and fine print doesn't say any other restrictions.

      Yes sure, except when you send out files to your profs, coworkers or any other M$ office users, the documents all show up differently

      I've typed up documents on my Linux box using OpneOffice and tried to work on it more on my Windows box using M$ Office. It just didn't go that well, but that was back in 2008. They might've improved since then but I rather not deal with the hassle.

      don't think so, it reqs you to activate the key and provide microsoft the purchase date as well as the receipt to be eligible
      Why not? If you buy the Ultimate Steal version between March and Sept, you will have a key, you will activated it, you will have a purchase date and you will have a receipt?

      Or were you assuming the question was "what if I already bought the ultimate steal" (eg before the eligibility date)? Because then the answer is obviously no.

      i'm sorry, but openoffice is just terrible. nothing formats the same, and it's slow as molasses because it runs on java. i really gave it a shot, and it has some great features, but it can't hold a candle to MS Office.

      same thing with Google Docs...so inefficient

      the office 2007 student/home edition was on sale boxing day for $49, so it wasn't a couple of yrs

    • Been using the Office 2010 beta for a few months, I'm really enjoying it. While there are a bit too many features(they should have some sort of 'basic' and 'advanced' function to switch between in the GUI) that are unused for me.

      All in all, its quick and does what it needs to do well, no complaints. Haven't crashed on me yet :P

      yes the site is working now...see! site doesn't get up and running until March 5!

      HA! I was right, the Ultimate steal purchases are NOT eligible...check the FAQ

      This offer is not valid for volume license customers, customers with Not-For-Resale or promotional product, customers who purchase Office 2007 through the Home Use Rights or Student Select programs.

      Haha! I was about to write the exact same thing, but then I finally read your post.

      So awesome. My free edition of office expired a little while ago so I downloaded OpenOffice.

      Oh well, OpenOffice has worked for me, but I haven't tried using its powerpoint-like program. Any comments on it?

      However, I think Openoffice is pretty damn slow at doing stuff, even formatting so it looks normal kinda pisses me of sometimes. But w/e, it's free! If you really only need a simple word processor, it is definitely worth a shot. It's not like you have to pay to try it out and it's a pretty small file to download.
