The base configuration (our preference is with an Ivy Bridge Core i5 Processor upgrade) is a great starting point, and you get some other nice configuration options including standard English vs French keyboards ($0), a matte or glossy display ($0) and a higher capacity 6-cell battery ($10). Note that if you want a webcam, that's a $30 add-on.
ThinkPad Edge laptops feature excellent keyboards, an aluminum lid, long battery life, and a healthy port selection including HDMI, USB 3.0, and VGA out. These are a good, affordable option for students and anyone else looking for a solid laptop.

1) If no camera selected, do we get the microphone only ?
2) Is "glossy" screen better for picture quality (and more reflection, of course) ?
3) Is selecting one of Intel's Wi-Fi options worth it ?
Many thanks
I believe if you choose no camera, you do not get a microphone. I have seen the edge series with no camera, and no mic hole, the top edge is flat
I like the matte screen. I've compared it to my old laptop with a glossy screen and prefer the cleanliness of the matte screen much better, and it seems to be the same picture quality. YMMV, because I'm not too picky with my screens.
From the lenovo site, this is what the Intel wifi gives you:
"If needing an extra boost to accommodate bandwidth-taxing network tasks such as advanced business applications or streaming multimedia such as games or HD video at home, consider Intel's Centrino line of WiFi adapters. The Centrino line is optimized to provide unparalleled wireless capabilities and high reliability in crowded, heavy traffic and larger area wireless environments.
With Intel® WiFi, you get an increase in signal strength with 2x2 and 3x3 antenna models. More antennas strengthens your signal capacity and connection reliability, allowing a more stable connection as well as the ability to connect to your network from greater distances from the source feed. 2x2 and 3x3 antenna arrays are ideal for the working environment, providing increased stability in a crowded environment whereas a 1x2 or 1x1 antenna would be adequate for home use."
I would say this is better for an office or airport. If you're using this laptop primarily at home you don't need it
Cheers.
