Listen up, folks -- we've got a great deal here! HMV is currently offering Nintendo DS Lites for $99.99! It's an excellent price for the phenomenally popular handheld console -- we're currently not seeing it priced any lower than $139.99 at any other Canadian retailer. It's currently available in:

While the Nintendo DSi is $109 at Walmart this week, stock has been scarce and many forum readers report visiting multiple stores without finding stock. While you can't shop online at HMV.ca, you can check for stock availability and reserve a unit online before you head in-store. That, along with the $99.99 price tag, makes the DS Lite a better buy in our book. If you've got kids in the house, we'd even suggest buying this now and setting it aside for the holidays!

- i saw the thread about zeller's having their consoles on for 20% off and they had dsi for $119, and Dsixl for $135 -- both in stock - only a few left of each, but in stock none the less ( the DS Lite were $111- so HMV has a better deal on them)

  From the hmv website stock is good, nothing like running around town for zellers or walmart.

  No, 3DS games will only work on the 3DS console. It's a whole new console generation with improved graphics and such.

  I am 99.99999% sure the 3DS games will not work on the regular DS. The 3DS has an analog stick so that pretty much limits DS compatibility there.
  
  I doubt DS game support will stop anytime soon. The number of DS's out there is huge.

  This naming thing might be an issue though... the names are pretty similar and could confuse parents and kids, who are probably the primary handheld market.

  Good idea to wait. Although the projected price for the 3DS will be $249 in the US, so perhaps even as high as $269 in Canada.
  
  I'm sure it will confuse folks, but what else is new. The whole DS and DSi thing caused a lot of confusion with accessories and such as well (cases were different sized for example).
  
  Then there are the companies that make shovel ware games that sound similar to other popular franchises just to try and pawn off a few copies on the unsuspecting parent/kid. Low ball tactics if you ask me.
  
  Although there are some older parents/grand parents out there that still refer to every single thing related to gaming as Nintendo, even a Xox 360 game. So for some folks there is no hope.
