These are some very good prices all around. The Axim X51v, though a couple of years old by now, offers great functionality and is still regarded as one of the better PocketPCs ever made. MobileTechReview gave it a 4.5/5 and lauded its features. As for the other items, $274 is simply a great price for a new dual 2.4GHZ Xeon server. Rounding out the bunch is the Geek Green PC Accessories kit, which just seems like a grab bag of handy items including a GE USB Retractable Number Pad, 5.25" MobileRack IDE removable Docking Module, Sudoku Handheld Game, USB 2.0 to Audio Adapter and Kingston 2GB DataTraveler USB Flash Drive.

  I can vouch for that. I've had mine nearly 3 years and still going strong w/WM6. Use it everyday. Still no standalone PPC that can match it.

- Bought one from Dell years ago and its still going strong....all-in-one and does everything pretty well...the VGA screen is pure beauty to look at (and I can never go back to pda w/ 320x240 screen).

  You have to buy separate GPS software like iGuidance or TomTom, plus the GPS receiver, preferrably a bluetooth one. The high-res screen on these really make the GPS maps clear and sharp.

- Thanks. Is the receiver quite bulky? I'd seen some of the receivers for the Palm and thought it made the unit quite unwieldy.

- Was an absolutly awesome unit for the year I had it until it got rudely stolen from my car!!! Main function was as a GPS which it performed beautifuly with the bundled GPS package from Dell, may very well go with this if i can find a decent GPS receiver to go with...

  The one I have is a GPSlim 236, and is the size of a pager. Since it is bluetooth, it isn't physically attached to my Axim. I put it on a shelf below my radio, and my Axim sits in a cradle nearby.

- Posting from my X51 (not V) right now. It's lacking the VGA screen and the Intel graphics accelerator, but it was free so I don't mind.
  
  Drawbacks: I find it slow: it uses flash memory or something to conserve battery life, sacrificing speed. Plus with Blackberries and such on the market the lack of phone capabilities hurts. The larger battery sticks out and makes it pretty bulky too.

  Unless you have an expanded/extended battery on the unit, it should be flush as in the picture from the OP's link..
  
  Great unit, I have both the 51 and the 51v; the 51 is basically a GPS unit in my car with also the GPSlim236 (pulled a long USB wire through the corner post and up into the sunglasses case in the roof of the car; can't see the wires or the flashing lights, but always on)) Axim sits in a cradle on the dash. Use the 51v for work (emails, sync to Outlook etc) Both work like a charm..
  
  only wish I could put WM6 on the 51 though....

- Good deal, I use my x51v as a gps in the car (with the gpslim 236 mounted behind my dashboard) and also for wifi hospots and the odd time music/movie watching.
  
  I'm considering picking up a refurb at this price just to have a backup unit. It'd be nice to have a second unit to put a different gps software package on to compare the differences (I use tomtom and it isn't ideal in many situations).

- still have my x50v with wm6 on it. Awesome ppc. Used it as a GPS for 12 hours straight and not a hitch. Got Iguidance and Tomtom on it

- people may want to consider getting a ipod touch. in june apple with release SDK officially making it the next gen pda.
  
  i personally have used ppc's for over 4 years and the thing that i hated the most about it was the reliability. it would hardly go a week without some sort of issue, either software or hardware.
  
  In jan my ppc touch screen died(again), luckily I had FS warranty. i opt to get the touch while it was being repaired.
  
  I used it for over a month, loved the interface(battery life was really incredible @ 6-7 hour w/ wifi surfing), but I had a second option since it was a 4th repair=replacement So FS ending up giving me store credit of $460 since they dont sell ppc anymore. So I got a PSP and PC instead.
  
  I never really used the ppc for any important use other than to just kill time by playing games, surfing and mp3/videos, which the psp does really well(other than surfing, which sucks). So the psp is a much better device for my use. but the touch would be great as a pda for wifi/apps.
  
  Try to get an iPod Touch for < $200.
  
  Also, not all PocketPC's are created equally. As most have said here, the Dell Axim X51V is one of the best ones ever made.
  
  Also, AFAIK GPS and office software is not available for iPod Touch or the PSP.

- I used to have an Axim X50v about 1.5 years ago. I don't feel like I ever used it to its full potential. This was mainly because of its crummy battery life. The effect is compounded when the battery is out, all your programs and settings are reset (basically auto-reformatted). Maybe this issue is resolved now, but that drove me nuts back then.
  
  Granted, at the time the Dell PPC's were ahead of the game and were quite feature rich, but the Ipod touch of today is a much more reliable device if all you're looking for is basic entertainment and not hardcore PDA functions. The touch's main drawback is the lack of pen-based input.
  
  @ Inno: I would recommend the Ipod Touch more for e-mail purposes at wi-fi hotspots. It works very well imo as long as you're not using hotmail. I have it auto-checking my gmail accounts every 15 minutes if there is a wi-fi connection.

  Yeah I would agree with that the only thing it is missing is making calls(not skype). I am playing with HTC Touch right now, while the screen is not as good, internet connection, and other features are not bad either.

  The X51V has built-in non-volatile memory (256MB), and uses RAM (volatile) memory (64MB) only for program execution.
  
  So even if your battery went completely dead or were removed, you would not lose your data.

- Some of us purchased x50v and x51v a couple years ago and have since switched to Blackberries because our needs have changed. You would do well to ask around or check on BST to see if anyone's selling. You could probably pick up a mint unit with lots of accessories for a similar price (ie. Rhinoskin aluminum case, extra stylus and battery, cradle (which the Geeks ones doesn't come with), etc.)
