If you're in the market for an affordable and capable laptop, Future Shop has a pretty hot deal on a refurbished Lenovo offering you might want to check out. Right now, you can pick up the refurbished Lenovo 15.6" Laptop with Intel Core i5-2410M, 640GB HD, 6GB RAM, HDMI and Webcam on sale for $399.99. This is one of the lowest prices we've seen for a second-generation i5 laptop and would be great for students or even as a desktop replacement.

For a penny shy of $400, you're getting a second-gen Intel Core i5 processor with average hard drive space and RAM. The lack of a dedicated GPU means you won't be doing much gaming on it but that's not a deal breaker. The battery life (up to 4 hours) and size (just over 5 pounds) means daily commuters might want something with a little more longevity but, if you always have an outlet near, this is definitely a good buy.

The deal is live now but this online-exclusive promotion will expire on May 10. Future Shop offers free shipping on orders over $20.

We'd like to thank forum user raceway for sharing this one with us!

    • I can't seem to find anything on whether or not there is a docking station for this model. Deciding factor for me on this one.

Bluetooth is on my wish list but this seems like a good enough deal that I could learn to live with one of those low profile dongles eating up a usb port.

    • It's a solid laptop. I have slightly more expensive version of this laptop with the i5-2430 processor for a month now.

Rock solid laptop. You wouldn't regret it.

I don't know how many people game here but I would NEVER recommend laptops for gaming anyways.

    • Ordered. Thank you OP! I've been looking for a solid $400-450 laptop for a while and been so determined to stay away from Acer and HP. The wait is worth it.

It does not have the port on the bottom for a dock. Only thinkpads do. This one may be compitable with the lenovo USB dock that comes with video connection.

Yeah I agree - I'm thinking end of June start of July there will be good deals to be had.

    • This is an outstanding price for this unit. Many of us bought it, or one of its sister models. during a sale FS had about a month ago now. The unit was priced at $429 for this model, and for the i5-2430 - the latter also having a larger hd.

Great machines, and even though refurbs, you get the one year warranty. I bought a total of 4 and they were all indistinguishable from brand new.

The units do not have bt or usb 3.0. The bt is a non-issue since a dongle can be had for only a few dollars. But they do make up for it in other ways, as they have 4 usb ports in the 2 to a side config which is the most useful, plus esata, hdmi out, fingerprint reader, an aluminum shell, shock hard drive protection, 2 mp HD webcam, etc

All the units I bought are in hard use since purchase, and all are standing up great.

This thread, which is now in expired deals, has lots of info which you might find useful:

and NetUserName started a support thread (Net I have not forgotten about contributing to it just got slammed on a work project that has been 24/7 for the last while) at the following:

$399 is a great price. I have to think that fairly soon FS is going to run out of these so once they are gone, that is the end of it. The non-refurb version of this sells for about $650, so you won't see it come down to this price - it will run out of stock long before then, since these units are no longer being manufactured.

    • I picked one up before sold out! Thanks Op. My old Compaq laptop is 4 years old and I was looking for a decent laptop to replace that. I believe it's good deal.
