Future Shop
Future Shop: Prepaid Sony Ericsson Xpreia Ray Smartphone $99.99
This deal has expired!
Buying a smartphone off contract can often cost an arm and a leg but Future Shop currently has a Sony offering worth checking out should you happen to need one at this moment. Right now, you can pick up the Sony Ericsson Xpreia Ray Prepaid Smartphone for $99.99. Though it might not have as much glitz, glamour or attention as some of the ultra popular smartphones like the HTC One X or Samsung Galaxy S3, this is still an affordable smartphone with some good features.
A full breakdown can be found over at GSM Arena but some of the more notable features include:
- Android OS 2.3 Upgradable to 4.0
- 1 GHz Scorpion CPU
- microSD with up to 32GB Supported (4GB Included)
- 8 MP Camera with 3264 x 2448 Resolution, Autofocus, LED Flash
- 720p Video Recording
- Stereo FM Radio with RDS
- Scratch-Resistant Glass
For $100, this isn't a bad deal at all. If you're looking for a replacement or just something to tide you over for the duration of your contract, this could be worth a look. This phone will only work on Rogers, Telus and Bell compatible bands so Mobilicity and Wind users will have to look elsewhere. The phone is also Telus branded so you'll either need to be on that network or have the know-how to get it unlocked.
Thanks to forum user coolwarm for giving us the heads up on this one!

I currently have a Samsung Gio. It's a good upgrade: camera/video, phone memory (my Gio is full), ICS available, DLNA.
I'll sell my unlocked Gio on eBay. So the Xperia will really cost me below $100 (I hope).
I believe TELUS just pushed out Android 4.0 to this phone.
Does anyone thinks this phone will last that long or is it another one of Optimus one's?
Bought it solely because of the sony ericsson name.
I would personally stay away from a phone like this because of the Sony name, I also like to stay away from LG products but I couldn't argue with a $50 Optimus One.
My buddy has this phone and he loves it.
Yes that's what I have found, checked a few RCSS and I don't see them around...

Will a 14.4 Mbps phone usually have a faster HSPA download speed than a 7.2 Mbps phone given the same cell signal strength and location? Noticed this is rated 7.2 Mbps.

I'm pretty sure Telus wouldn't sell the i(nternational) version just to piss off their customers, who would wonder why their data is so slow.
