For those looking for absolute lowest price or light users, the $349.99 options are a solid choice. The $379.99 models offer more power in terms of processor and graphics performance, along with USB 3.0. Both P580 and Y580 have the basics like a webcam, card reader, and HDMI output. Thinking this could be a great HTPC - 90% of the time and still take it with me if heading to a friends place... thoughts?

I have the same Z580, only new in the US a few months ago (non-refurb) for $350 AR and with 8 GB RAM. Not a bad system, but the Ideapad trackpad sucks, and the 1366 x 768 screen resolution is crappy but typical for sub-$1000. Nice: minimal bloatware.
Stay away from Windows 8 on these units (or on anything without a touchscreen for that matter IMHO).
If you can use a credit card that doubles the warranty up to a year, do that. It's free.
