Future Shop: Asus EEE 10.1" 16GB Slider Android Tablet w/Built in Keyboard $299.99 (Final Clearance)

Asus EEE 10.1
This deal has expired! This deal has expired!

Here's one of the more interesting tablet options to come along recently! Future Shop has a final clearance on a number of previous generation tablets, and there's 1 in particular that catches the eye.

The ASUS 10.1" 16GB EEE SL101 Slider Android Tablet (Mocha) is down to $299.99. The "Slider" portion alludes to the built-in slide out keyboard. The remaining specs are quite good as well -- 16GB internal storage, 10.1" IPS 1280x800 touchscreen, Nvidia Tegra 2 1GHZ dual core processor, microSD expandability, 5MP rear camera, 1.2MP front facing camera, and more. The EEE Slider ships with Android 3.0, but there is an official update to Android 4 (Ice Cream Sandwich) available.

It looks like this tablet has a lot to offer. The only thing to note would be that it weighs more than your typical tablet on account of the built in keyboard. It weighs in at about 2lbs. If that doesn't sound like a problem for you, then you should act quickly as there are only 10 in stock online as of Sunday morning.

    • Is this better than galaxy tab 10.1 ? I know galaxy is very thin and light. But other than that how's the experience?

    • Only thing I don't like about the Slider is that if you don't want to use the keyboard and slide the keyboard inside, you're stuck holding it anyways since it's connected to the tablet

    • I remember THIS was the tablet I wanted when ASUS first announced their Eee Pad line.

It took way too long to be released, so I ended up getting the Transformer instead.

    • Seems to be ICS upgradable. Can't go wrong with 300$, Asus makes decent hardware. Worse case i'll return it.

performance and screen quality are about equal, if that's what you're asking.

+ You get a physical keyboard
+ You don't need any accessories to 'complete' the package

      - It's heavier and you can always buy a bluetooth keyboard separately
      - No keyboard dock, so you can't extend battery run time
      - It's kinda heavy and you can't remove the extra weight
      - No palm rest for the keyboard

How is ICS a crappy OS?
I use my TF101 a lot more than my iPad simply BECAUSE of the reliable(and Flash) OS.
Just stating a fact, not that you were implying Apple as an alternative.
If someboday made a smooth running Windows tablet for $300....I'd take that above all else.
Closest is the Acer W500,which is $500,underpowered for the OS,and runs like crap.

it doesn't have an IPS touch screen, does it...
16GB of storage space with windows...

    • I'm in the market for a netbook for lectures/classes... any good recommendations? This looks intriguing, but I think it would be more practical to have a real OS (i.e. Linux/Windows)

Look for Asus 1200x series netbooks, they are amazing netbooks if your on a 250-400 budget in my opinion.

Been using my Asus 1215N for a year now. Got it from TigerDirect for $299.99. Pretty powerful compact unit (12.1" screen), can run games like Need for Speed using the nVidia ION technology. Highly recommend ASUS netbooks

    • I would not recommend this at all. The original TF101 is still better because you can remove the keyboard and have better viewing angles.
