Putting together a complete Core i7 system piece by piece at retail would set you back quite a bit more. Intel i7 920 processors cost anywhere from $370-$400+, X58 motherboards can be had at $250 and up, and 3GB of DDR3 RAM would cost you at least $130. That's no less than $750 for 3 components alone. This system also comes with a discrete video card. Even if the video card is not the fastest one on the block, the complete package is a good value if you're considering an Intel i7 system.

- There is only the X58 chipset for Nehalem, nothing else has a remotely close release date. The motherboard is likely a simplified Smackover, with either 3 or 4 DDR3 slots.

  So, as you can see, you're pretty much paying for the main 3 components and getting the rest for free, most notably a Vista Home Premium license. Not for me though. The whole point of i7 for me is overclocking, and unless this board is flashable to something else, there won't be any of that.

- You're getting cheap parts other than the CPU. The RAM, Mobo, PS are probably cheap crappy parts from unknown manufactures.

  It's better to buy CanadaComputer package IMO. They offer 1600MHz RAM. Dell's PSU will most likely damage your system if you don't change it. For i7 with good video card 360W is nothing.
  
  Personally wasting 3 slots for 1GB each is not smart. I would wait until AMD Phenom II comes to market and then make the move.

  In that case I take back what I said. This board is already better than Intel Smackover, minus overclocking. Smackover only has 4 DIMM slots. As for the PSU, one of these days I'm going to have to open one up. I really wonder who makes Dell PSUs, might be time for me to google, someone must have looked this up before. Dell's PSUs, while "generic", are indeed reliable. Might be $10 to them, but it's better than a generic $10 PSU that we can get.
