My guess is you could build this with quality parts and costs you another $100-200 or let Dell take care of it and get a warranty.
I'm not a pro at this pc building stuff so somebody please correct me if I'm wrong. Also I'm not trying to crap on the thread and say build it yourself, just presenting a perspective for those like myself that are sitting on the fence.
I also bought a Dell UltraSharp U2412M 24"W Monitor, 24.0 Inch VIS, Widescreen for $249.
The case is pretty compact so it is easy to store. I think it has a mATX board.
Intend to use for basic home use...browsing, MS office, pictures, maybe some very light video/picture editing (of kids), and a bit of video transcoding using Format Factory...no gaming...

And i think you have been misinformed, ivy bridge platform can do at least 32GB of ram. It has 4 DIMM slot. If should be able to support 16GB of ram with 2X8GB.
