DC Universe Online Goes Free to Play (PC, PSN)

DC Universe Online Goes Free to Play (PC, PSN)

Starting today, the popular MMORPG, DC Universe Online, goes free to play on PC and PSN. If you're a fan of DC Comics, and have the patience and bandwidth for a ~13GB download, this is definitely a game to check out. Launched as a retail game with a paid monthly subscription earlier this year, you'll now be able to enjoy the core game play absolutely free. Of course, there will be some drawbacks compared to people who've paid for the game but free is free!

Installation instructions and more information can be found at the DC Universe Online website. You can check out the launch trailer here.

You may also download the game via Steam.

no idea.. they told me that they think it is a head office error because its not under their clearance pricing but that the actual price dropped to 5 cents.. maybe they thought that it was going to be free from now on so they did that.. but its definitely not free.. just free to play instead of paying for a subscription...

btw, i am not sure about the PC version...

was able to get one copy today from the stouffville location around 5:30pm... lady checked on her gun and said basically all of the GTA has no copies left anymore...

According to my DCU:O newsletter it will be free to download on PSN. However, this is really worth getting because if you ever spend money on this game you get an elevated level of F2P.

    • So why is WM selling it for 5 cents?
Because the Developer is stopping all physical copies from here on out. That has become a dead SKU taking up valuable inventory/stock space, so they want to get rid of it.

    • Confirmed at my location. My store had 3 copies of the PC version, I sold 2. Lego Harry Potter for the PS3 was another title that dropped to 5 cents the other day. Not clearance, just a hard markdown.

Every important gaming news source says it will be free in addition to being free to play. It's going to be downloadable free from the marketplace... also it's not really barebones, seeing as you get access to everything except you have to pay for DLC's. You just get less in terms of storage space and less character slots. You don't really know what your talking about.

      Free, but somewhat limited.

If you're looking for more perks or the ability to earn trophies, a subscription will be required. If none of the aforementioned matter to you, then the Free-To-Play version will suffice.

    • yeah of the 3 tiers f2p is the most limited, but far from barebones. WoW's f2p up to level 20 is barebones.\

    • Yes I managed to find a copy of the PC version, it was $0.05 too. I'm hoping this gets me a Premium membership, even if I didn't technically spend $5.

    • Wow, these trade in for $17 at The Source?! I knew I should have hoarded all the copies.

    • Do they have any trade-in value anywhere besides the source?
No. Used copies are worthless. The Source is just recycling them I believe so that's why they're taking them.

Just picked up a PC CE version for the $0.05. Thanks op as I like to get in with the CE versions just before they go F2P. Did this for LOTR:O and I have a ST:O waiting in the wings also. That and I am a sucker for CE versions.

I noticed that too but couldn't decide if it should be broadcast...guess it doesn't matter now Even if it's just for the case, it's worth a nickel...

That’s right, DC Universe Online will soon be free to download from the PlayStation Store, and free-to-play with no monthly fees required." - PS Blog
