Toronto area retailer CTY Computers currently has a hot deal if you're looking for an external DVD-burner. Until November 23, you can grab a Samsung USB 2.0 External DVD Writer (black) for $39.99 cash in store, or $41 if you order online (they now ship orders across Canada as well). External DVD-burners routinely cost $60 and up, so this is a very attractive offering. If you have a netbook, or perhaps deal with older computers that might have have DVD drives, this is a very handy peripheral.

  it's weird how it reads only up to 16x, but writes at 20x, and no model # that i can find =/

- Great burner. The only gripe I have is that they took out the Power switch. Cost saving?This thing stays on (active) all the time. To completely power it off, you have to unplug the adaptor.

- I have this burner. It is a great burner. $39.99 is insane!
  The only problem I had with this burner was it couldn't play my Band of Brothers Disc 1, however, after update to firmware (TS01?), everything works fine. Strange.

- Just picked up one on my way home from work this afternoon at the Richmond Hill location. She had two left, one I bought, and the other was on hold (probably from one of yous ). But she also mentioned that she is receiving more stock tonight as well.

  Brown box / White box are normal for OEM products (ie. not retail)
  but sometimes its difficult to tell if it was return or not but in my case the USB cable pouch it came in was ripped and I saw finger prints on the drive body itself even though they did a nice job of repacking...

  mine had the adhesive clear plastic all around the shiny parts of the drive, so it was untouched.
  
  if yours came without the plastic, who knows how many burns it already went through. exchange it.
