View allYou can do basically 3 levels of calibration:
1) Turn down backlight as low as you can and still see picture. Turn down constrast and brightness. If you're new at this, the picture will at first look kind of dim compared to what it was and what stores have trained us to expect. But after a week or two you'll be used to it and will notice how other TV's are crazy hot bright. Compare your settings with internet forums and this should probably get you about 80-90% calibrated.
2) Use a do-it-yourself calibration like Disney WOW disc, or some of the Disney titles that have built-in mini-calibrations. Some TV's have a built-in calibration app, like LG's "picture wizard". You basically set the right range of brightness and contrast for your room lighting and TV. This will get you about 98% calibrated if you do it right.
3) Hire someone or use color calibration equipment that will do really fine and minute adjustments, sometimes even to various areas of the screen. This is kind of an elite level of calibration and in my opinion doesn't get you much more than level 2.
And yes they do allow reserve in store on Black Friday, this year and every year.
I can wait until summer to buy. Would you jump on this deal? or will I come across better before then?
Reserve in store shouldn't have been clickable since I don't think they've ever done that on bf. Too much time.
They made it sound like it was my fault for using in store reserve pickup option.
This is something one can learn to do for themselves, and some movies and TV's even come with a simplified optimization process. Many TV's come out of the box with super bright picture that's really inaccurate, so I change the settings on virtually every TV. It's definitely something you want to do, but not pay $300 for. Taking settings off the internet doesn't make much sense to me since every TV can be a bit different, and every person's room is *definitely* different. But I guess the internet forum settings at least achieve the step of cranking down the whiteness, so that's better than nothing.
You can buy a calibration disc set for $20-40, or even the Disney WOW disc will be OK.
I'm a bit surprised they said $300 as they usually offer it more like $99, maybe this was a bundle of their 3 big services of hanging the TV, calibration, and warranty?
You can buy a basic tv calibration bluray (disney wow) and do it yourself. ($19.97)

You can hire a trained isf certified technician to do a pro calibration but it is expensive and it may not be worth it unless you really want the most accurate colors, etc.
There are also diy ways to do it. For my dual monitor PC, I am using an EX-Rite i1Display 2 that allows me to adjust and create monitor profiles for my two display. Since I am using the PC for photo editing it gives me consistency between the 2 monitors and the printing results.

Went back in to browse a bit more and while I was there (30 minutes) they sold 5 more of the Vizio TV's.
There were 5 left around 6:40 when I left.
It wasn't nearly as busy as I'd feared.
