Originally Posted February 11: Some interesting items have come up for sale at Amazon.ca. They've got some discounted prices on some good quality Snowball USB microphones as well as on Asus Skype Video Phones. The Skype video phone is actually very well reviewed -- 4/5 based on 30 customer reviews at Amazon.com. It's also selling for $206 US there, so the Canadian price is pretty solid.

Turning to the microphone, it's a professional quality (or professional-amateur at least) microphone that connects via USB. If you do any kind of recordings (podcasts, singing, or instruments), this microphone should be a big improvement over normal consumer choices.

Shipping is free on orders over $39, so everything here qualifies.

    • Well i think i gotta thank the op here, even though nobody seems to care about usb mics much, cuz a year ago it took me for freakin ever to find a professional USB microphone at 100 bucks. I got the Samson Co1U, but was aiming to get this one, but at the time it costed like 30 bucks + original price of the samson which was 140 + tax. I got my mic for 100 + s&h. It's got good reviews, everything's great about it, other than the fact that it looks weird as heck. SOOO anyway yeah.. thanks OP hope you're helping someone else that's going through the annoyance I went through back then.

      Yeahh...unfortunately it is taking its sweet time with my order lol. I hope they ship it out soon. Are you guys happy with this mic if you have it? I'm gonna be using it for podcasting and guitar recording.

    • Leo Laporte the tech guy (who knows probably about as much about computers as your 14 year old geek does) for what it's worth has endorsed this on his shows even though he uses a shock mount that's 3x more expensive than this mic itself

    • The mic is pretty good. I was torn between a samson & the snowball, and read reviews on both, and they seemed pretty comparable. One of the in depth reviews of the snowball mentioned it was best to use a pop-filter, and I agree, I get a lot of popping. The other thing is, if you are doing voals, you need to be close to the mic. Like, your lips almost need to be touching the mic to get optimal quality.

      I haven't done indepth testing yet, just a few sample recordings. I also haven't tested it with an instrument (since I don't play any).

      I saw on a price comparison site there was a place that had this for $10 cheaper, however when I went onto that site, it said "This price is too low, so you must provide your e-mail address to us, and we'll send you the price so you can actually order it". Seemed sketchy, so I passed.

      For me it's for music recording, as a hobby. Can record vocal and acoustic guitar tracks and with a mic like this, no need for much more equipment other than a decent audio editing software package.

      you may want to consider a presonus firepod for recording separate tracks and independent mixing. if you get this, it is possible to do much more with your music and it enable professional recordings. you could use this with conventional mics and record muiltiple players/singers

      Yes that is correct, it is a much higher price point. I went through the single mike recording phase and did not find it technical satisfying. It was fun and I learned a lot, but I found the multi track experinece was much more flexible and more interesting. I could also use conventional mikes and instrument inputs. Disadvantage was the I had to get a Mac for this, my PC's choked on recording multi-track using cubase.

      I think the Snowball mike would be great for youtube recording and capturing some quick tunes. I enjoy music and recording it. Have fun doing your recording!!

      I think it is $249 at Steve's music if you are in TO. By the time you save on shipping and duties, probably a better way to go....
