Amazon.ca: Le Pan TC 970 9.7" Multi-Touch LCD Android Tablet $174 + Free Ship

Le Pan 9.7
This deal has expired! This deal has expired!

If you've been looking for a low cost tablet with a good display display, you may want to check out this offer from Amazon.ca. Right now, you can get the Le Pan TC 970 9.7-Inch Multi-Touch LCD Google Android Tablet PC is currently $174.00 with free shipping.

This is an older tablet that has been available at a price of $199.99 for some time. First and foremost, it runs an older version of Android (2.2 Froyo). Even so, with a sub $200 price and some decent features, it warrants a look.. The Le Pan Tablet has a 1024x768 great screen (supposedly the same panel found in the original iPad), microSD expandability, and the horsepower (a 1GHz processor and 512MB RAM) to competently handle things like 720p video playback, internet browsing, and more. With 260 customer reviews on Amazon.ca, it has an average rating of 3.9/5. There are certainly more powerful tablets out there, but if you just need a basic tablet and you are on a tight budget, this isn't a bad option.

    • Really good tablet. I got one for myself about a year ago and recently got one for my mom for mother's day. It does NOT have the latest OS nor can it be upgraded BUT, it does it's job very well. Don't expect blazing fast speeds and some apps might have higher requirements and won't run but to do email, read a book and the occasional light web surfing, it works very well. A 10" tablet for under $200...c'mon, pretty darn good deal if you ask me.

    • You can get way better for less today. I don't know what the obsession on redflagdeals.com is with this particular tablet, but there is nothing special about it and it's priced towards the high end of no-name tablets using an outdated OS.

    • Thanks for the info about the outdated OS and not being able to upgrade at all, this pretty much kills this as a deal for me. Sounds like it is pretty much an outdated tablet.

    • To the commenter who said you can "better for less" - I disagree. This tablet (at $174.99) is perfectly priced - you can upgrade to CM7 using a custom ROM, it has a fantastic display (exactly the same hardware as the iPad Gen 1), the battery life is close to 12 hours with WiFi on and use (video watching, etc), and it has the same form as the iPad, allowing for a slew of inexpensive accessories. I purchased one back in November for $150, and it was a great tablet that did much of what I wanted it to. I sold it on eBay for the same price I purchased at, and purchased an Acer Iconia ($100), but I have to admit the screen and battery life was better on the Le Pan!

    • Question to my fellow posters: Wouldn't a Playbook at 199 be a much better deal? I know reviews for that have been mixed but I'd think a "brand name" would be much more reliable, even though the platform sucks.

    • Yes, iOS is outdated and LePan did release a newer version of the tablet with a much newer iOS but it also costs $300. Not being sarcastic but I would like to know of a 10" tablet with 12 hours of battery life as well as an amazing screen for under $200 after tax. Definitely a tablet I missed during my searches. Thanks.

    • A Playbook at $199 is a decent deal as well, but the difference in size and the availability of apps might be an issue worth saving $25 on...
