Amazon.ca: Le Pan TC 970 9.7" Multi-Touch LCD Android Tablet $259 + Free Ship

Le Pan 9.7
This deal has expired! This deal has expired!

The tablet market has been shaken up (in a good way) with the Google Nexus Tablet, but for those of you looking for something bigger than the 7" form factor, you'll still have to go digging for a deal. Right now, Amazon.ca has a interesting candidate -- the Le Pan TC 970 9.7-Inch Multi-Touch LCD Google Android Tablet PC is has been discounted to $259.00.

Make sure you understand what you are buying here -- this is an older tablet it runs an older version of Android (2.2 Froyo). With that said, the Le Pan TC970 Tablet is does have a great great display (the same panel found in the original iPad), microSD expandability, loud speakers, and sufficient horsepower (a 1GHz processor and 512MB RAM) to competently handle things like 720p video playback and most internet browsing. With 278 customer reviews on Amazon.ca, it has an average rating of 3.8/5. It's a bit dated as far as tablet experiences go, but we haven't seen better at $149. It's a viable option if you're not going to cross the $200 price point.

    • I wouldn't buy it as you will be stuck with Android 2.2 OS and can't upgrade to ICS.

Only $149 bucks though (and Amazon has decent return policy if you do not like product).

    • From all the reviews, the screen is nice and speakers are loud but the processor is pretty slow for even more intensive web-browsing and the capatibility with many programs is an issue. Also, the camera isn't very good.

Considering new models are coming out from other manufacturers for around the $200 I don't know if I would jump on this.

    • There is a forum specifically for the Le Pan - do a search for "Le Pan Life".

There is a CM7-based ROM. For $150, this is a decent tablet for everyday use. It has it's issues, but the battery life is amazing - I once ran it on WiFi with 30 minute syncing for 40 hours.

lol - at 66.67% more cost I would hope it would be significantly better.

    • Was a good deal at 169 back in January when I bought mine.

Not so hot now unless you are desperate to have more than 7 inches (no homo)

    • If you read a ton of manga then this could be used as a designated manga reader. All you need is a big screen, you don't need much power to view images :p

    • Froyo shouldn't be what you are worrying about, its the 1Ghz single core, going to be quite outdated soon. You need at least a 1Ghz dual, just look for reliable websites in China like Aliexpress and buy a Dual core tablet that rivals a Tegra 3 since so far no app or OS, even on Windows 7 don't use all 4 cores

    • I bought from Amazon.ca at $Can169 when loonie was well above $US. Great deal then, even better now with lower loonie and $Can20 less. And it works REALLY well, not everybody needs honeycomb, ICS, etc., etc. Buy, buy, buy!

Are you trying to state that Windows or Android themselves do not make use of 4 cores?

    • Actually, if you treat it solely as an eReader, this is a great deal.
