If when the time comes to replace the drums, you can find an entire printer, new, for $165+tax, sure, go for it! Otherwise, replacing the drums could potentially SAVE you $235+tax vs buying a new one if it's not on sale at the time.
Again, like I said, separate components gives you options. In the long run, the Canon and the Brother probably end up costing the same (Brother has lower purchase/toner price but maybe higher maintenance cost, Canon has higher purchase/toner price but maybe lower maintenance cost). Me, personally, I chose the Brother because you can reset/ignore the low toner level warning, and because at the time the equivalent Canon didn't have Ethernet. Still a great deal for this Brother either way
Also, OEM means Original Equipment Manufacturer, in other words, same brand as printer. If OEM Samsung cartridges damaged your Samsung printer, I'd be calling Samsung for a warranty repair! And I don't think you were unlucky, just Samsung printers don't seem to last as long as Brother, Canon, or HP in general...
10,000 pages may give you the chance to replace each cartriges for around 5 times, then after 5 times, what you can do is to get rid of it since the Drum Units are expensive. Generally speaking, the lifetime is around 10,000 pages in total. You also need to pray to have good quality OEM cartridges as well. if you got some trouble with the so called OEM cartridges. The printer will not give you a good quality at that time and it will become garbage very soon.
I may not be very lucky since the so called OEM cartridges, they damaged my AIO Samsung color laser printer. it only worked for half of the lifetime of the separete Drum Units. after 3 times replacement of each OEM cartridges, the quanlity is unacceptable. Dots and lines are anywhere.
Inkjets are slow. Sure, they advertise 20 or 25 pages per minute, but the more that is on the page, the slower they print. Lasers print at the same speed regardless.
Laser printers (especially ones like this Brother) are rated for many more printouts than inkjets. I have an older Brother 9125, it's rated 25,000 pages per month. I doubt any inkjet could do 25,000 pages period! Many inkjets are rated around 500 pages per month, some 1,000, few more than that.
Other advantages of laser include: sharper text, and printouts won't bleed/run/fade (important for flyers for example).
One big disadvantage of laser is more limited media options, i.e. can't print iron-ons, can't use photo paper, MUST use laser transparencies, etc.
Also, as was mentioned, they're not the best for photos.
anyone have suggestions ?
I prefer the separate components. That way, I only have to change the parts that actually need it, rather than paying more each time for a new drum unit that might not need replacing.
I suffered a lot from the Compatible Toner Cartridges. they are not reliable and cause many problems and eventudally damaged the Drum Unit Set. the Drum Unit Set has the same price as the printer itself, so, it is garbage right now.
However, If you have an integrated Toner Cartridges (with the Drum Unit), you just need to replace one Toner Cartridge. and it will not affect the other units, even if a Compatible one does not work well, you can just replace it without troubing another units, (especailly the other Drum Units). Remember, the Drum Units are very delicate and cost more than the Toner.
The reason why the Cannon one has a higher price for the Toner Cartridges is that the Toner Cartridges are integrated. You replece not only the Toner Cartridges but also the Drum Unit at thae same time . This gives you a better quality rather than only change a Toner Cartridge.
if you want to get a good quanlity for a longer run, better to choose the Cannon one.
if Useful , pls thanks!

$97.50 Canadian shipped Ontario so no lengthy shipping delays or Disgusting Ebay USA crossborder Shipping/Customs charges
Also i does not has duplex printing
Waiting for the 9330 to go back on sale to recommend to family members.
this is a better price
That's exactly what I was doing, and my inkjet actually cost $3-4 for both the color & the black compatible cartridges.
But I was printing in color so seldom that it would always dry up and it would even clog the heads. Too much wasted time.
So instead of bothering with all of that, I decided to go with laser for the color as well.
Compatible works fine for some but I would rather use OEM. Lasts an extremely long time with the toner reset screen...
$150 for toner cartridges? That's crazy!
I bought a printer only version couple of weeks back, after stacking a couple of coupons and it became a pretty good deal (one was for the free $40 label maker that I also needed).
Note that the one from the OP does not have auto duplex, would've been a deal breaker for me.
Is there a deal for toner that's significantly better than this for a modern color laser printer?
(And yeah, I can get black toner for my older Canon for under $15, but that doesn't apply)
Its never been cheaper than $250 US on amazon USA. Average $315. So $229 CAD is about 30% off the average. That should qualify as somewhat hot in a rational universe.

Compatible toner cost for all package is $144.99, which is much cheaper than OEM but consider the high cost cartridges cost, I guess I will pass
