get this dealAs part of Apple's Spring Forward media event on Monday, it was revealed HBO Now, the long-awaited standalone streaming service from HBO will be coming to the U.S. in early April for $14.99 USD per month. Apple will be the exclusive launch partner of HBO Now and as an introductory offer, new customers who sign up in April through an Apple device will get the first month free. That’s in time for the April 12 premiere of Game of Thrones!
Along with this announcement, Apple is cutting the price of the Apple TV to just $69.00 USD! Rather than introduce a new or updated model, it makes it more accessible for people to take advantage of this new content service. The Apple TV will be the only streaming box at launch, where you’ll be able to get instant access to all of HBO's award-winning original programming without a cable subscription. As stated by Apple’s CEO Tim Cook during the keynote, “if you don’t have one yet, now’s the time.”
A Canadian rollout for HBO Now is not scheduled. For now it looks like it's only available in the U.S. Follow this link for more details and FAQs.
Reduced Apple TV prices is in effect now. The Apple Canada Online Store is selling the Apple TV for $89.00, down from it’s original list price of $109.00. For those of you looking to save more, certified refurbished Apple TV units are also available at a reduced price of $79.00. We can expect to see other Canadian retailers adopt the new prices in the near future.
